Got An Item In The Heritage Platinum Aucton At The National

One of my "Crown Jewels"
100 lots, each with an estimated value of over $10K each.
Wish me luck.
Depending on what it goes for proceeds will help me get my financial state of affairs in order.
Of course, with my luck it will be the only lot in the auction that doesn't hit 10K.

I'd be leery of it's authenticity

There is absolutely zero chance the Brett jersey is not genuine as it came directly from a team source in 1980 AFTER GB's brother joined the Royals late in the season when George switched to jerseys with G.Brett on the back.
This is one of the few items in my collection I can trace back to the original source. It's been in my possession for 31 years and has not bounced around the hobby from collector to collector.
i can see a carryover in 1978, but 1980?
Moose, I din't know it was yours..I thought you were bidding on it

Good luck with the auction!
Take a look at this Wilson Tagging Primer from the Game Used Universe site. This particular post came from a very detailed collector who posted this back on the site in 2006 and it has not been challenged/disproven up to this day.
I wish I kept pictures of it, but at one time I owned a 1980 Royals top of common player/pitcher, Rawly Eastwick and the appropriate Wilson tagging was in it.
The Wilson tagging in your Brett jersey is from the 1974-77 time period...As I stated, it's not uncommon for a jersey to be recycled the next year....but not three years....Back then, no one had the research/resources that are available today and it was common for people (not you obviously) to simply pull older tags from common player tops and re-sew them ito make new "star" ones.....(what better year for a George Brett jersey than 1980?)
I'm surprised Heritage didn't pick this up...
Wilson Tagging Primer
I know a rep from Heritage posts on here from time to time, so I'm interested in whatever thay may have to add to this..
Good Luck

What about the fact that it says "it only applies to MLB game jerseys tagged in the tail."

LOL
Edited to add: I hate when I don't read all the posts carefully before answering. MLBfan2 already mentioned this tagging primer does not apply to this jersey, as the tagging primer applies only to jerseys tagged on the tail.

Makes no difference; the majority of MFG tags are found on the tail and not in the neck (not so with the Royals)

Manufacturers Tagging: The offered jersey features a Wilson manufacturer’s label, the style of which is most commonly found present in jerseys for the period of 1974-1978. Towards the end of the period, Wilson appears to have transitioned to a tag that features a change in location of the ® from the top of the letter “N” in Wilson to the bottom of the letter “N”. What you can see however is that there are common player examples of Wilson products (other than this jersey) that show the c 1974-1978 tag appearing in uniforms as late as 1980. (PLATE I)
To all interested bidders, good luck!

<< <i>I'm confused....what does all the mean?? >>
Means that the primer that was linked was not completely accurate, and there is no reason to say the jersey is not from 1980 based upon that link.
