................... who has completed assembling a really PQ, top notch, amazing, stunning, etc. collection (raw or slabbed) to take the plunge into the PGCS (or NGC) Set Registry and leap into the top five with their set?

If you have done this, or know anyone who has, details please/

I think someone did that with Franklins last year if I recall. I think Bushmaster8(?) created a thread in the Registry area about it asking who the person was etc.

Not something that happens often but the surprises do happen.

Busmaster was asking who RILEYTAI was...now that I recall. It is the #4 set that showed up out of the blue one day last year. HERE

Great idea. Thanks. I'll build a super sleeper set and then once it's completed, pop up like magic on the registry. image Of course, gathering from my post, I have not done this. In fact, I am working on my first registry set, but now that you bring this up...I just might keep it a sleeper until it's complete image

You can't take the plunge with a raw set.image

And I would say that it's extraordinarily uncommon to to suddenly arrive with a set in the top five!

What we've got here is failure to communicate.....

I suspect that there are many collectors who have colllections that include raw and/or slabbed coins that would make it into the top five of a registry right out of the box. "Sleeper collection" is a good phraseimage

Of course, if the collection was raw, it would have to be slabbed first before it could be registered. The slabbing and posting of the grades for the order submitting the coins would publicize the collection, but it still would show up "out of the blue".

Cool...I think SanctionII is finally going to get those amazing 1950-1970 cameo coins slabbed! image

While you're at it make sure to get 'em all TrueViewed. image

It happened to me. For over 35 years I assembled a complete U.S. Philippines coin set of 185 coins including the proofs .

Last December I finished sabbing them both PGCS and NGC. I loaded them into the NGC registry and jumped to the number one set.

I am in the top sets in PCGS too. I got word that this really shook some folks up comimg out of the blue like that.

There are still great unslabbed sets out there. I know of a set that would probably send me down the ladder too if he played the registry game.

Many sets assembled long ago are not slabbed yet, until they are sold.

Stealth may be a good way to win, but when i had a set in the winner column,

i showed each coin as i purchased it. it seemed the decent thing to do and made

the competition seem like more fun, in a friendly competition sort of way
