ANA Summer Seminar Started Already - Any Reports???

I believe the first session starts today, so I'm hoping some of those attending will soon post reports.

I'm so excited to be attending my first Summer Seminar and will be leaving on Thursday. I'm heading out a little early so I can check out the coin show on Friday, then I'm taking Doug Byrd's EAC class during the second session, and will also participate in the Denver Mint tour. I've heard a lot of great things about the Lunar Lounge and will be bringing some good wine so I can become one of the Lunar Lounge Lizards! I plan to take lots of photos so I can post my usual "on the road photo report."

Anyone else going?

The Lunar Lounge is worth the trip on its own.

Yep, Library book sale was this morning and classes started after lunch.
I will be there second week and I won't be leaving until Saturday. I will
hit the coin show for about 3 hours then head over to check in around
noon. See you at the Lunar Lounge.
You should be able to attend the first week's last Lunar Loung night on
Thursday after the Banquet. Never been there for both weeks so I don't
know if there is any loung activity on Friday.

Your going to have to get up here again one of these days.
Maybe now that you are the outgoing prez of GHCC you can
qualify for one of the GHCC scholarships.

Is anyone else from GHCC, besides John B. going to be there second week?

Kevin Scase is one of our scholarship winners this year. He'll be up there second week. Mebbe John & Barbara Trout, too.

I left Sunday and drove from Tucson and headed north to avoid the fires and went through Lake Powell, to Bryce Canyon, UT. Yes, this is called taking a joy-ride. Next day I hiked around Bryce until it got hot around noon and then drove to Moab through Escalante river basin and Capitol Reef, which was one of the best drives in the USA! Well, maybe second, after Ouray to Durango, CO, which I'll do on my way home. Did Arches and Canyonlands and then drove to Colorado Springs by way off Leadville and Cripple Creek. The Colorado and Arkansas Rivers were all at flood stage.

Missed going to the Rockies game yesterday because I forgot when it was. They returned from the game at 1:00 AM. I stayed in Cripple Creek, which was dead because it was Tuesday. Got into my class today - Confederate Currency with Wendell Wolka. It was very interesting. However, tomorrow, instead of learning about Southern Currency, I will become an instructor again and help teach the Counterfeit Detection Course with Brian Silliman.

The cafeteria building is under construction, so the food is moved to a different hall. Its all paper plates and disposable utensils since they don't have any dish washing equipment available.

The auction starts shortly - I have my eye on a the two hour "vault pass" to the Byron Reed collection. oops, I guess I should tell you after I win, not before.

The auction raised about $25,000 for the Young Numismatists. One coin, a large gold coin from Ptolemy sold for $12500 to Rick Sear. For $400, I put Notlogical (Samuel Ernst) in the "Cash Grab" money wind tunnel and he snatched $60 or so. I also won the Byron Reed vault tour for four people for only $170. That was too cheap. so I said it is $170 per person. Now I need to find three other people who want to travel to Omaha at the same time as me, pay me $170 and take the tour with me.

Coin Husker (Mitch Ernst) donated the lot and says it is a very rare opportunity to view the Byron Reed collection in a personal setting with the Curator. Mr. Eureka has a first right of refusal on one of the spots.

It's been a great week! Notlogical, as usual, is having the time of his life. due to the construction Rick just mentioned, the food has been a real challenge but being a first timer, I can see why people come back, year after year. The people I've met, the conversations I've had, , the things I've learned, the experiences I've had will be with me for a long time to come.

As usual, it was great to see Rick and appreciate his friendship and hopefully have made a few more over this past week.

If you haven't come to summer seminar, you really need too.

Here is an image from breakfast. Looksl ike something out of "Harry Potter". BTW, I got my owl, today and Rick Sear said I can buy his magic wand cheap. I'm almost ready for "Notions, Potions and Counterfeits" class.

I'm in Denver right now waiting for my flight to Colorado Springs - can't wait! I hope they serve some decent wine at that fancy dining hall! If not, at least I brought some of my own!!

Left Cincy Thurs AM - stopped in Illinois for lunch with wife's Mom then to Jeff City, Mo for the night. Dinner in shadow of state capital at Doubletree.

Left JC 6 AM and finally rolled into Dodge at 3:30PM - only 103 deg F. Staying at Dodge House Convention Center - Outlaws race tonight south of town but too tired. The Great Plains are aptly named.

Off to The Springs tommorrow, coin show, dinner with wife's friend from Toledo who happens to be in town!! Will turn over reports to Charmy on Sun. Staying at Antlers - refuse to stay in a college dorm after graduated.
