1971 Topps. In the early to mid-80s I had just started collecting and my neighbor was also a collector. He would have me bring in his groceries or other odd jobs and pay me with 71s. It was pretty nice to be the only kid at school whose collection went back further than 1983.

The best Bowman set, and great artwork in the Topps set (especially Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays and Satchel Paige)

1967 topps for me. I really enjoy the color of the cards even the green backs.
The HOFers in this set is off the chart.

back when i collected baseball it was the colorful 1970's sets - 1975 and 1972 ... greenest grass green and bright yellows - the Oakland A's !

so now I love the 1975 Topps soccer cards - like their baseball counterparts, very hard to find in mint condition.

1967 for me as well. Although I opened packs a few years earlier, that is the first year that I remember really being into cards. Also, it's the first set I put together as an adult.

    I'd have to say:

    1) 1963 Bazooka All-Time Greats - I believe it's the first ever Foil cards. At least I've never seen any older, if you know of a set let me know.
    2) 1962 Topps
    3) 1940 Play Ball
    4) 1961 Topps

I've just always liked the design of these sets. Enough said.

So have any thoughts and opinions changed over time? while I like the 1967 set, other years seem to stand out alittle more. I have a greater appreciation now for the1953,55, 56 and 60 sets. Not sure I can say which is my favorite

    67 for aesthetics

65 as it was the first pack I ever opened. Jake Wood was my very first card in that pack. I was 5 and still remember it

I am a Topps guy, so here is my top five plus my sentimental pick:

1955...like the design and how background color fades from side to side
1957...first all photographs used by Topps and design is simple (I wish Topps would not have mistakingly reversed the negative on Aaron; it would have been his best looking card
1963...my favorite; colorful design; and the best looking backs too
    1965...like the pennant w/team logos
1967...simple design like 1957 and green backs are attractive too

For sentimental reasons...1964 (first packs bought when I was eight). Multiple Gary Kolb pulls of St. Louis in 2nd series...ugh, instead just one Pete Rose and no Willie Mays.

1971 for me. The primary driver is the Steve Garvey rookie card, which I fell in love with in my 20s. That, combined with my obsession in finding only high-grade examples, really seals the deal for me.

1977 Topps is a gorgeous design. I love the fonts used in the team names.

1970: I also really like the gray borders, also like the blue on the backs. Tons of HOFers in the last 2 series.
1971: jet black borders and mammoth 752 cards. Tons of HOFers
1969: tons of HOFers and last Mantle
1987 & 1985 Donruss: jet black borders and bright yellow backs

1955 Topps...the standard photo with the action shot and signature is cool. Love the old school team logos.

Honorable mention to 1976 Topps...first cards I bought. Very clean design, like the position logo.
