The UK does not use the Euro (they are smart)

The British Museum has a lot of ancient coins on display all over the place.
And there is one room devoted to the history of money.
My favorite item in that room were the original dies for the Gothic Crown.

And they have a lot of other "cool" stuff too, like the actual Rosetta Stone.

Across the street from the museum is one of the few coin shops in town where you can actually walk in off the street and browse around.

Okay then... collect punts, pounds and pudding!

I know they aren't on the Euro but you'd still be able to collect Pesos and Canadian coins in our pocket change!

The Bank of England has a very nice little museum. The bank is in Threadneedle street in the City. Whenever I'm there, I always catch lunch at Dirty Dick's, a pub with great food and atmosphere, it's in Bishopsgate, not very far from the bank.

It would be quite easy to start a British one and two pence collection but be prepared to get coins "by the bag" since they do not roll coins over there.

Some of the one and two pound coins are rather interesting as the British do not hesitate to change the reverse of the coins.

Another note on available collectable coins is London hosting the Olympics in 2012 , they are doing a 4 year countdown of 5 pound crowns , 2 of which i have , also there will be 29 different reversed 50p coins issued so there's some fun to be had there if you like that kind of thing.

Look for counterfeit one pound coins in your pocket change. I heard that an astonishing percentage of circulating one pound coins are fake!

As others have mentioned, be sure to go to the British Museum.

You need a buttload of GBP banknotes along with coins. London is obscenely expensive.

The British Museum and Bank of England museum both have coins on display. There are a few shops near the British Museum (the Spink office is in that area as well).
