A Good News Story - three Monster Boxes He didn't Order

Still some good guys out there, SF bar owner receives three monster boxes in error -

That bar owner gets an 'atta boy' from me!!! I'd have to imagine alot of people, especially in todays economy, if they knew it was 'money', or precious metals, well, it woulda been bye-bye ASE's, hello insurance claim for the intended receiver.

The story makes no sense from several perspectives....but I do applaud the feel-good nature of it.

First all, how did the owner walk out with at least 450 lbs of silver coins (150 lbs per box) rather than the 30 lbs total in plastic he should have been expecting?
If they were monster boxes of 500 coins each, that's 30 trips to get to 15,000 coins....either that he's stronger than Paul Bunyan.
What bar owner describes the size of these coins as 3X the "circumference" of a quarter? But maybe he was a former college professor.
Fwiw a coin 3X the circumference of a quarter would be about the size of a 3 inch ATB "puck"...not likely.
There's close to zero chance that the intended recipient of the coins (APMEX) would have had to file a claim for $82K. What APMEX employee expecting a shipment from the US Mint
weighing hundreds of lbs. is going to walk out with boxes weighing no more than 30 lbs total? (ie plastic poker chips). Any claim for missing coins would have been on the
head of UPS or the US Mint. How much plastic does APMEX purchase from the US mint....lol.
The $82,000 value doesn't quite jive with 15,000 coins, no matter what you have. That's about 1/6th of an ounce at today's silver price.

I think they need to refabricate the details of this whopper.

This is one reason I don't read/watch much news reporting. If they can get stuff you know something about jumbled up like that, why wouldn't you also conclude that the stories on topics you don't know much about are any more carefully prepared?

Looks like they're showing 3 monster boxes of 500 coins each. Imagine 90 total boxes with 30 per pallet. How many hernias did he get?....

Now just maybe, there were only 1500 coins. That's $54 per coin to reach $82,000. That still doesn't work for an ASE being bought by APMEX....nor the current retail selling price...
unless they were fattening up the insurance value.

I'm afraid what passes for journalism from my local paper is pretty piss poor these days.
Something stinks in all of this. I wonder how the Chronicle found out about this
mix up? If I was a cynic I'd think that someone found a way to drum up a bit
of bar business and a gullible reporter gladly gave him free publicity.
Funny how he had to open all three boxes when he would have known
what he had after the first.
