It doesnt say what type of silver commem coins they are. Sure look like eagles but the article calls them a commem.

edit. nevermind pic 2 shows silver eagles.

Added: Oh it was only three mint boxes then, not enough to hit the border.

Circumference of quarter = approx. 24.26*pi
circumference of silver eagle = approx. 40.60*pi
40.60 is far less than 3x 24.26

Thickness of quarter = approx. 1.75mm
Thickness of silver eagle = approx. 2.98mm
2.98mm is far less than 4x 1.75mm

As pointed out, 3 boxes at 500 coins each is not 15,000 coins.

$82,000 for 1,500 silver eagles = $54.67 each?

I was expecting to see mint errors, like dimes on copper cent planchets or missing edge lettering. If not that, I at least was prepared to look for double negatives and the use of "ain't." quick--someone dangle a participle in a minting press and cause some clash marks!

It is really, really nice that he had the honor to return the silver, however much it weighed, measured, or can be appraised.
