This is the highest denomination gold coin ever issued by Japan. 20 gm. of 999 fine gold. Commemorates the 60th Anniversary of the Reign of Emperor Hirohito. year 61 (1986). Had a hard time getting a picture through the security Plastic from the Mint.

Congrats. Japan certainly puts outs some of the nicest designed coinage and this piece is no exception!

I remember the face value of the coins, 100,000 yen, was quite a bit more than the melt value for awhile. As a result the coins were often counterfeited and people attempted to turn them into banks etc.

I love that one too! I still don't have one of the non-proof versions, and at the current price of gold I probably won't for awhile! Very Nice!
