Claychaser's road report - Heritage Auction Lot Viewing 6/24/11

In deference to CRO's well written and entertaining reports, I'll offer my knock off version of our adventures today.
TrainNut and I drove over to Heritage in Beverly Hills today and checked out the Orlando Live Session lots. No On-Line only lots here, which is the part of the auction we really like to peruse. But, there was enough in the more mid-level stuff that we are confortable with to look at. TrainNut was looking for some early copper, and I was looking at some small denomination gold and commems.
The traffic was fairly OK getting through LA, and we arrived around 10 am with no other viewers in the room. We sat down, and Doug Winter walked in the door. We said "hi" to each other, but as the auction viewing ediquitte (sp?) goes, no fair discussing specific coins with your favorite dirty gold coin dealer looking at the same lots you are looking at!
TrainNut (my YN) selects boxes, and I follow him in looking and make my own notes. We discuss a few coins, but save the comparison until away from the viewing table, and we compile a list of coins for a "second look". For the real pros, this is likely a waste of time, but we need all the help we can get! We go through about 50 candidates, and eliminate about half for a hit list of 25 or so.
Of the small gold, TrainNut and I agreed on most of the coins as a "deal" or "no-deal" criteria, and disagreed on two.
TrainNut surpised me a little by looking at gem toned Morgans. This was not an area he was looking for in the past. For these ultra high grade 67's and 68's, I'll defer to Larry Shapiro, Don Rinkor or Steve Twitty for these bits of eye candy that I don't collect.
We finsihed up around 3, and went to Phileep's in downtown LA (near Union Station) for an early dinner of their famous (as featured on Diners, Drive in and Dives) french dipped sandwiches and pickled eggs. I then proceeded to fight the Friday afternoon traffic out of LA for a tough drive home.
All in all, a nice day with some cool coins to look at.
