I just don't get it.

You operate a website that brings buyers and sellers together to make transactions. In an effort to improve the experience for buyers, you tighten things up for sellers. But you go totally overboard, driving sellers away in droves, which in turn makes the experience for buyers........worse.

This isn't rocket science, it's Business 101.

The whole thing with Ebay is just bizarre.

    How Bizarre How Bizarre

Ebay became too big for their britches. But somehow they continue to make more profit. I think people just got so used to using ebay that it made other sites unrealistic to use for selling.

Don't worry about it, unless you move 10K or more a month with them they will find a way to limit your account and eventually kick you off.

Once you have some schmo give you a 1 for being one day later then they want for shipping your time on ebay will be numbered.

I rarely buy a thing on ebay any more and other than an item a couple of weeks ago for a friend I can't tell you the last time I sold something on there.

If I am after something very specific, such as a belt for my Deere or a bulb for my TV, I'll buy it on there.....

There are very few '33 Goudeys on there in comparison to a few years ago and the ones that are there are blatantly overpriced.

  • I usually average $30-40K a month in sales on Ebay. My last set break ended just above $25,000 two weeks ago. When I go to list my next set it wont let me. Call Ebay, they say they have now limited my account to $25K per month, no reason, no notice given. Plus the people that make those decisions have no phone support (meaning I can't talk to them)
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

  • How hard would it be to come up with an alternative to ebay? I am very computer dumb, but I would think somebody would get something going by now. If they keep turning the screws to the "little guy" somebody should start up another site and take ebay down.

What's the point in limiting you sales? I sell only rarely-what changes has Ebay made?

    you guys are funny image

    complain (cry) complain,
easy... if you NO LIKE, NO USE then.......... simple

I like eBay just as much today as I did back in 1997, except I dont find the "5 cent on the dollar" deals every week like I did back then.

today... what your card sells for on eBay is what it is worth in the real world, ...that wasnt the case back in the late 1990s.....

Folks who have not yet been to war with the RICO-gang ALWAYS
think that the "complainers" are full of prunes.

The most recent round of "listing limits" is NOT being run by humans.
An incompetently crafted algo is being used by worthless bots and
is resulting in a MASSIVE pogrom/purge against small/medium-sized
    sellers.

Trying to talk/argue/reason your way out of the mess is fruitless.
Wrongfully netted dolphins ALWAYS die on EBAY. (Trying to
circumvent the limits with sleeper accounts is the certain path
to NARUville. ONLY new accounts operated FAR away from a
limited account can "beat the system.")

JD only wants the Chi-Com counterfeiters, the legit mega-sellers, the
fraudsters, and the shoplifting fencers using HIS venue. He may get
what he wants, sooner rather than later.

    .................

If google continues to expand its "partnering" with eCrater, there
might be some relief for small sellers on the horizon. (With the
new AdSense contract, it is prolly prudent to list a few thousand
raw cards; listers can currently get 100% of the AS money that
is generated by their own pages.)

If Bonanza ever wises up and goes all in on an ad-blitz, they could
EASILY become a destination site that would suck buyers away
from EBAY. (NO site - no matter how slick - can EVER compete
with EBAY, if they rely solely on search-engine traffic. ONLY a
    destination site can unseat EBAY.)

    ....................................

By my calcs, EBAY is below expectations this quarter. Expect a
good listing sale by next week. The fewer listings posted this
weekend, the more likely that sale will materialize.

Remember: EBAY can NEVER afford to miss. They must ALWAYS
meet/beat the street or they are ruined. NO streak - good or
    bad - can last forever.

    << <i>set phasers to stun. >>

    /////////////////////////

Here is a fun stun that has long been expected.

    fun stun

It perfectly illustrates what EBAY sees as its future.

A long way away from the sale of those Pez-dispensers that
    Pierre's chick first made.

    ......................................

The brand of disruptive innovation that Romney taught JD
    continues to be implemented.

I continue to believe that DI imposed on an existing/successful
first-to-market enterprise will ALWAYS result in the destruction
of that enterprise. We may know soon.
