Set registry awards and Classic Auctions

Two things:

1. Did any of our regular board members win any of the Set Registry Awards?

2. Did anyone pick up anything nice from Classic Auctions? I picked up three nice 1910 C56 hockey cards (Fred Taylor, LeSueur, Laviolette), and 24 signed baseballs (22 were signed by Sandy Koufax) from the Luc Robataille Collection.

I am assuming you meant the big awards?

I'll pick up quite a few of the badges, I am mostly competing against myself. At least I have a head start in case someone wants to chase me.

I did get passed on the final day for my complete 1954 Parkhurst Wrestling Set. I had no idea the other guy was still active, I think my passing him a couple months before made him active again. Of course, the bitter pill to swallow is that I unknowingly sold him the cards he needed to pass me. I got the money, but he got the badge. Game on for 2012.

The Stock Car Musuem won the category I was in the running for. I believe I have seen many posts from him. He has quite an impressive Nascar collection.

I won three badges for the Wrestling All Star sets.

I won a Gretzky PSA 10. Underbidder on the Jackie Robinson, and the Mantle PSA 1 (MK), went a tad bit too high for me. Nice card however!
  • I don't see the awards posted yet. I should get 6. banners this year. With the oldest set being from 1961 Steeler Set.. I have 27 complete sets, so 6 out of 27 isn't bad..

I have the unfortunate luck of only being interested in sets where the whales play. Unless Donald Spence decides to unload his pop 1 psa 10 '48 Leaf Spahn, his PSA 9 '54 Aaron or his pop 1 psa 10 '69 Bobby Cox, I likely won't be in the running for a badge for All Time Braves.

I will be getting 32 banners I think. Maybe 30. I don't remember. But mostly stuff nobody is really interested in. Some team sets, some player sets, one autograph set, and a couple of all-time teams (NFL Saints and NHL Hurricanes). Fortunately, in my little categories, the really big fish have very little interest. But when they do, I imagine I won't be seeing anymore of them.

    Hey Dpeck,
Thanks for the kind words. I went and viewed your wrestling sets - very impressive. Jerry Lawler is a local boy and one of my favorites.

  • From Classic, I won the scrapbook from Shirley Davidson's family that included a team signed sheet from the 1898 Montreal Victorias. It had 3 autographs that I have been chasing: Mike Grant, Russell Bowie, and Graham Drinkwater. I also picked up the signed drawing of Howie Morenz.
    Thanks

Brian - Congrats on the C56 pickup. Did you win any of the C55's? I got shutout, unfortunately, and lost out on the three lots I really wanted after I went to bed.
