What fake card did you get stuck with ?

I once traded a Gretzky, Lemieux, and Jabbar rookie, along with another card or set to a guy for a 51 Mantle.
I sold the Mantle to a guy, and after buying it the guy called me and said it was fake. I took the Mantle back after refunding his
money, gave it to a few experts who said it was fake, and then sat in my room and my stomach turned as I had to rip the card up and lose about 2 grand.

I bought a 50 card lot of 1988 fleer Michael Jordan cards about 5 years ago. I bought 25 of the regular card and 25 of the all-star card and i sent them in to BGS to get them graded and they all turned out to be fakes!!!! image

Bought a fake '82 TCMA Elway card several years back for $400! Luckily the eBay seller refunded my money after SGC rejected it.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I got burnt on a Bobby Orr RC once, but I was refunded right away so that doesn't really count.

A card I was stuck with was a Art Ross RC that was beat up so bad (intentionally) that I didn't recognize it as a fake. No refund on that $178.

I'm in a mall that is putting on an antique show (mostly furniture), but this guy has several older cards (all different sports) and I see a '59 Fleer Ted Signs for $10. I buy some cards and am getting ready to leave and I said "is there something wrong with the '59, maybe marked or creased? He says no it's a reproduction. I said what a shame, and he decides to throw it in for free because I spent about $300 with him. Turns out it's real. I still have it today and never finished the set.

Happened to more than one dealer. I bought 5 from a Mike M. up here in Mass. It was also a dealer to dealer transaction. He, Mike M., did refund my $$ the next time he saw me, apologized etc., as he too had been a victim of that NY guy too.

Jordan RC at an estate sale for $175.00. The dirtbag even used disabled kids to parade his stuff around the room. On the bright side,
this is how I found CU. Now I use it as a coaster in a screw down holder.

  • Jmhockey23Jmhockey23 Posts: 652 ✭✭
