I collected Marino through late high school and college and I did the same thing. There were quite a few offensive lineman cards that had Marino on them.
At least I'm not the only weird one that attempted to get "every" card showing the person I collected!
You should see my Finest Refractor, Stadium Club First Day Issue, and Donruss/Leaf Press Proofs collection that only mention Frank Thomas' name. I too collect cameos of Big Frank, but he has very few.
It's fun when a guy makes a cameo on a card before he even gets a card of his own.
1982 Topps has a card of Jim Zorn that has a young Dave Kreig sitting next to him on the bench. Krieg's RC came 2 years later in 1984.
Early in Upper Deck's run, they employed an artist named V. Wells to do the art for the various team checklist and special cards. In a 1992 team checklist card for the Braves, he drew himself and his 13 year old son in the stands (lower right corner). His son is Vernon Wells, major league outfielder, currently with the Angels.

But...what in the world is Will doing on a card depicting the 1986 NLCS in the first place?

Huh. I *never* thought about that. It is weird, as the 1986 NLCS was the great Mets-Astros series. The card is also strange because it shows the Astros celebrating, but the headline is the Mets winning. The picture is almost certainly from the last out of Mike Scott's no-hitter which clinched the NL West for the Astros. So, they either used the wrong picture or the wrong headline. Strange all around.
Anyway, I'm glad people find my cameo collection interesting, if maybe just a bit odd. I have a couple of new additions to scan and upload, if anyone really cares.
