Fake half dollars on ebay europe

I bought a supposed gold plated daniel boone commemorative half dollar on ebay

the item number is 190539021897

It was described as a 1936 but in the picture you can see its a 1938 D . Somehow I convinced myself that no one would fake a better date coin then ruin it by gold plating it on purpose and I grabbed it at the buy now price. In my mind I was thinking some poor dumb foreigner gold plated a better date coin 50 years ago and his grandson is selling it at melt I better grab it before someone else does.

I didn't think anyone was counterfeiting half dollars but obviously they are now. Its copper or bronze possibly it weighs 11.3 grams it looks a little washed out almost like it had circulated before it was plated. Looking at it closer the story falls apart its just a mushy strike rather than wear. There are no obvious mistakes in it however possibly a mold was made from a real daniel boone half.

If it wasn't the wrong color it might pass as a circulated better date commemorative and get bid up over $100.

If they can do this maybe they can make fake franklins or walkers and mix them into junk bags , who is going to weigh junk coin by coin to see if its real. At 25x face there is money to be made that way on a pretty stealthy basis.

I haven't seen any copper-nickel clad IKE's being counterfeited.

Unfortunately, there have been reports of fake Ikes. Also fake SBAs, fakes of all flavors of low value foreign minor coins as well. More recently fake CWTs have also been reported. It is getting bad out there.

This is an age-old business here and they know exactly what they are selling. These are coming from Russia and they counterfeit really anything one could imagine back there.

I saw a box that was bought that had over 10,000 common "circ dollar".

I asked the dealer what he wanted each and was told he just bought the entire thing earlier in the week.

I took a closer look at them and thought some looked a little off. The coins didnt ring right.


Turns out the whole box was counterfeit dollars.

Think about it.
