Am I missing something here?

Check out this auction. It's almost double the already inflated Spink price and is about to close as I write this. It's a nice piece, but is it over $400 nice? Bidiots, or is it something else?

Bidiots are always welcome at my auctions. image

Could be a classic case of two novice buyers who having never seen anything so good before think it must be a proof. You get the same questions asked all the time on the Predecimal forum. i.e. "I've got this coin that's so good it must be a proof". Alternatively it could be one novice and a shill. One has private feedback, which always makes me suspicious.

Bidiots or shill bidding. Both bidders have an abnormally high level of bidding activity with that seller.

I bought a really nice coin from that seller a year ago. I'd be surprised and stunned if it was shill bidding.

For some reason I'm thinking it won't grade Gem, looks like to much going on with both obverse and reverse. I'm guessing nexbies to the world coin market.

I am also seeing the same kind of pricing with dealers who are new to the world coin market, they try to sell a $20 coin for $4-500 because it has nice toning, or a decent but relatively common Victoria piece for double or triple the market price. It makes some of the previous high priced dealers look like they are giving them away.

    just do not feel bad...
last week 4 Australians were bidding on a simple 1926 Canadian 5 cent piece, about VF20 on a good day, and not the Far six.
went for $26.....5 fold of what it is worth....
OR, perhaps we are all missing the bus???
    are prices going up???

I think I see rub on the base of Vicky and too many problems for the coin to go GEM (65) as Jeff has said. Shiny yes, a proof NOT as Rob has said.I think the proofs do go for about that price - or less!
