How much interest is there in the list of message board people and their registry?

I was goofing around in Microsoft Access a bit tonight, and I started to come up with the beginnings of a pretty neat report that will display a listing of all the regular posters here and their sets. The cool part about this thing is that you can sort all the sets by category, by message board name, or by set ranking.

It wouldn't be too hard to output all this data into a webpage, and have it available to anyone (using their own custom sort settings) on demand. I started to work on this, but decided that I'd ask to see if anybody would actually be interested in seeing anything like this, or if it would sit unused.

Basically what it would be is a webpage where you can:

1. Show all the sets a certain user has registered
2. Show all the sets registered by message board people in a certain category (Proof Mercury Dimes, 1900+ Type, etc)
3. Show all the sets registered by message board people in order of rank

So, please respond to this thread saying if you would ever use something like this, or if it'd sit there and never be touched. I'm fine with it either way...just kinda curious to what everyone has to say.

  • Dave,

I would be interested in something like this (see my signature line). May first question is who/how/when would this data get updated (new sets, change in ranking, percent complete, etc.)?

    Thanks,
    Larry
  • SOME ONE STARTED A LISTING OF SETS SOME PLACE ON THE BOARD , BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE ALL THE EXTRAS THAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT WITH SORTING AND EVERYTHING , MITE BE A LOT OF WORK TO KEEP UP WITH IT . WHO'S GOING TO TAKE THAT CARE OF IT ALL??? TAKES TIME THINK ABOUT IT , UNLESS IT'S EASY ENOUGH AND SET UP SO THAT EACH PERSON CAN ENTER HIS or HER OWN SETS IN IT .

THE OTHER LISTING THAT IS STARTED IS UNDER
( WE NEED A POST THAT JUST LIST EVERYBODY'S SET AND A LINK TO IT )

  • Dave,
It sounds wonderful. It also seems like a monumental task! Is there some way to get PCGS and their programer to help maybe? I think the program your talking about would really enhance the enjoyment of the site.

    Thanks,

    Mac,

I would like to kindly ask you to turn off the "all caps" in your writing, as it is difficult to read. Upper and lower case is much easier to read.

    Thanks,

  • Well, it SOUNDS difficult, but I don't think it will be as hard as it sounds. The reason is that I can associate a set number with a person's nickname. For example, my Early Lincoln set is set number #1572, which you will see in the URL of the set.

The only problems I currently foresee is if somebody deletes their set or makes it non-viewable. I think I'm going to do a test run of just the Half Cent and Cent sets and see how it turns out. Hopefully it'll be up in a few days.

Pcgs has something similar in their software, I think. It's new to me. When you go into Register Your Set, there is a tab offered at the bottom called Set Summary. It shows a list of all sets from one email address, probably one's own set(s) only, at this time, but I would think this program could be of help in some way.
