BCCG

Can someone explain the difference between BGS and BCCG? Are these both Beckett grading brands? I bought my first BCCG card a few weeks ago- the card was rated 10, but had a soft corners when it arrived. I sent it back and got a refund, but if left me with a bad taste in my mouth for BCCG anything. I have found the BGS cards to be fairly consistent over the years.

<< <i>BCCG was invented for the home shopping network. That is where it originated from. It was their way of unloading PSA 3-6 level cards for 10 prices. BCCG cards are basically not worth the grade unless you just want an authentic example for a hopefully cheaper price. >>
Bobby your exactly right. People shouldn't ever trust a BCCG 7 to be the same as a PSA 7
You have zero idea what you're talking about. GEM and PRO were created for that purpose, BCCG was created sometime after by Beckett to have a quick in and out service that was affordable and made sense to grade less than 9.5 worthy modern cards. From their website: "In an effort to reach our wider audience, BCCG is a high-volume grading service intended to provide collectors with an attractive and affordable alternative to other graded card products."
I've been using BCCG to grade and sell for 2 years and generally speaking the cards do cross from PSA, you just have to read the flips because their grading scale is different. A BCCG 10 is "Mint or better" so high PSA 9s and well centered 8s with nice corners generally end up in those slabs. A BCCG 9 is "Near Mint or better" so PSA 7s and 8s generally cross to BCCG 9s. Every once in a while cards can slip into a BCCG 10 slab that don't warrant it but overall they're actually fairly accurate. A BCCG 8 is Excellent or better and pretty much all PSA 5s and 6s end up there. And yes, BCCG has rejected trimmed and altered cards, even ones that have been previously slabbed by PSA.
BCCG 10= Mint or Better
BCCG 9= Near Mint or Better
BCCG 8= Excellent or Better
BCCG 7= Very Good or Better
The real reason to grade BCCG cards is because people like the OP don't realize that a 10 doesn't mean Gem Mint and will pay a premium for them. BCCG does not have a Gem Mint designation. I've been crossing a lot of PSA 7s into BCCG 9 slabs and selling them consistently for 50% more in BCCG slabs even though both slabs mean the card inside is 'Near Mint'. Out of a few hundred cards I've subbed to BCCG only had 2 that slid into a BCCG 10 holder that I felt didn't deserve a Mint grade.

That's because a BCCG slab clearly says 'Very Good or better' and should be considered the same as a PSA 4 card. I agree that it's not the most efficient numbering system, but you could say the same thing about SGC which completely defies logic.

I disagree, I've purchased my share of BCCG 10's on the intent of getting them reviewed by BGS and I've been fortunate enough to receive 9's and 9.5's One example is a Derek Jeter 93 SP in a BCCG 10 which I purchased for less then $100 and came back a 9 in BGS and sold for over $300. I wouldn't say they are not worth the grade, but I wouldn't buy anything less then a 10 in BCCG.
