This is the 1871 J-1147 Pattern $1 Dollar PCGS/CAC PR64BN. The Indian Princess design.
I simply stared at this J-1147 for 30 minutes straight! I liked it so much more than the higher graded NGC PR66BN that I have seen. The only knock against this pattern is a small toning dot above the last T of TRUST in the ribbon above the eagle and various very small toning dots on the obverse and reverse. But you cannot really see them with the naked eye. The darker area on LIBERTY of the globe did not bother me at all when viewing the coin in person.They blend in nicely.
I used to be such a big fan of red or red-brown patterns but this is soooo much easier on the wallet and less to worry about!
I paid too much for this, as usual, at $9775 including the juice. My limit was $9999! I have a feeling the under bidder's limit was the same!

I agree, for the most part. I do not believe that you “paid too much”! This is an excellent piece.

I can't say much about the collection, but I will say the guys in the shop followed this part of the sale with some interest. It came in over the counter on saturday as told above, and was included among the favorite coins some of the guys have ever seen come in unexpectedly over the counter. The result for the J-1151 copper dollar pattern was spectacular. Unfortunately the coins were shipped to Baltimore for viewing the weekend I arrived so I never got to see them in hand.

A serious question.....looking at those straps and arm bands and the drapery upon the far shoulder, is she wearing anything else above the waist besides the pearl necklace and the headdress?

I was thinking about that at the viewing area in Baltimore. But there were no male employees of Stacks/Bowers to be found to discuss that pattern.
Joy in realizing I do not have to run to the vault to see this 1871 J-1147 pattern photo.
Sadness in realizing that I will not see speety again.
Perhaps late, but sorry to hear you've lost a friend.
