Any of these players HOF'ers?

Do you think any of these will the HOF and will the cards be worth something if they do (i.e. are they worth collecting now)?

Baseball

1) Jeff Kent
2) Jim Kaat
3) Tommy John
4) Fred Mcgriff
5) Joe Torre
6) Jamie Moyer
7) Mike Mussina
8) Andy Pettite

Football

1) Curtis Martin
2) Jerome Bettis
3) Drew Bledsoe
4) Dave Krieg
5) Vinny Testaverde
6) Boomer Esiason
7) Tiki Barber
8) Marvin Harrison

Basketball

1) Jason Kidd
2) Gary Payton
3) Moses Malone
4) Robert Horry
5) Ray Allen

Give me your opinions, and name some others. Basically, if you think they will make it, is it worth pumping a few $$$ that way now.

    I can speak to baseball...

and say yes to Kent being a HOF and maybe yes to the Moose.

    1) Jeff Kent
    2) Jim Kaat
    3) Tommy John
    4) Fred Mcgriff
    5) Joe Torre
    6) Jamie Moyer
    7) Mike Mussina
    8) Andy Pettite

  • Curtis Martin should make HOF. Bettis and Harrison maybe. Moses Malone already is in the HOF, and I think Kidd makes it one day. I have graded RC's of all of these, and none are big money cards nor do I see any of them becoming very valuable.

I'm only a baseball guy and will throw in my two-cents here:

    1) Kent -- absolutely, more HRs than any 2B ever. That should get him in.
2)Kaat -- always been close and I believe the Hall Committee will vote him in, someday
    3) John -- No (personally I say yes), he will go down in history as the winningest pitcher NOT in cooperstown. It's a shame with his longevity that he could squeeze out about a dozen more wins.
    4) McGriff -- No. Great career and in the group of way above average MLBers, but just shy of Cooperstown.
    5) Torre -- Yes. Will get in as a manager.
    6) Moyer -- Not unless he hits the magic 300 wins
    7) Mussina -- the most interesting case, and I'll say yes -- I actually think he could have pitched his way to 300
    8) Pettitte -- No.

Moses Malone is already in the HOF; are you confusing him with somebody else?

The baseball list; I'd say they are all marginal HOF'ers at best.

The football list; Martin, Bettis, and Harrison have good chances based on career statistics being amongst the all time tops. Harrison had some legal issues so is image is somewhat tarnished.

Basketball list; everyone but Horry is very likely to make the HOF. Horry has a 0.00% shot.

    Baseball

    1) Jeff Kent - he's in if not linked to steroids. He is a real world class a-hole from what I hear, so if its close no one is backing him up. All time HR leader at 2B though (at least he was)
    2) Jim Kaat - no
    3) Tommy John - no
    4) Fred Mcgriff 33% chance of induction
    5) Joe Torre - yes
    6) Jamie Moyer - no
    7) Mike Mussina - 33%
    8) Andy Pettite - no b/c of steroids but otherwise there with Mussina

    Football

    1) Curtis Martin - yes
    2) Jerome Bettis - yes
    3) Drew Bledsoe - 75%
    4) Dave Krieg - 50%
    5) Vinny Testaverde - no
    6) Boomer Esiason - 75%
    7) Tiki Barber - no
    8) Marvin Harrison - yes

    Basketball

    1) Jason Kidd - 100%
    2) Gary Payton - absolutely 100%
    3) Moses Malone - 100%
    4) Robert Horry - 33%
    5) Ray Allen - 100%

I really wish we'd stop using Wins and Losses as a metric for a starting pitcher.

Lets assume that the starting pitchers on this list averaged 7 innings everytime they pitched, also assuming that every game was 9 innings long (both may be stretches, but hang with me)

That means that a Starting Pitcher affects 38.8% of a game where he pitches, meaning that 61% of whether he gets a Win or a loss is determined by someone(s) else. Wins and Losses look nice, but saying so and so fell short of 300 or so and so reached 300 should not be a major determining factor in my opinion.

To the question at hand, only Torre and Kent deserve to go in, and that is for his accomplishments as a manager. Pettitte and Mussina may get pushed over the top, because of the veritcal stripes on their primary uniform.

Kent has the steroid cloud, but should go. Kaat and John - their times have passed, both are stat accumulators. McGriff while he hit 400 HRs he gets overlooked in this era, don't think he makes it. Moyer - no way. Most aggregious omission last year... Jeff Bagwell.

    1) Jeff Kent........ YES easy
    2) Jim Kaat .......... NO never (the Rusty Staub of pitchers)
    3) Tommy John ........... NO never
    4) Fred McGriff ............. should be, but no
    5) Joe Torre ...........YES as a Mgr
    6) Jamie Moyer ............. Hell NO!!!!!
    7) Mike Mussina Very Close, one Day YES
    8) Andy Pettite lol lol hahahahahaha ...... lovin' the 4 career shutouts by Andy in 479 starts (non-HOFer Fernando had 26 Shutouts before his 26th B-Day), and Andy's 1.36 whip wont get him a vote either.

I also don't understand this sentiment. Either he is or he isn't. Why must a guy wait 15 years? If Mussina's numbers are good enough to get in, then why does he have to wait?

Horry has a very good chance. I understand why you say he has a 0.00% shot but you have to remember they just elected Tom "Satch" Sanders this year as a player. Satch was never better than the 5th best guy on any of his 8 title teams. His numbers are close to Horry's. Big Shot Rob's 7 titles will merit him serious consideration.

If you really want to invest in future HOF basketball player high grade RCs, pick up rookies of Zelmo Beaty, Mel Daniels, George McGinnes, Warren Jabali (nee Armstromg) and Louie Dampier. The stars of the ABA are getting a much closer look than they have in years past. All 5 of those guys will be in eventually.

Take that up with the Hall and the baseball writers.

Let's use Don Sutton, who was "kept out for 7-8 years". He won 300 + games but was never a dominate pitcher. Is he on the level of Seaver, Feller, Gomez? NO WAY.
I guess the writers felt he should wait. Honestly, after you're in, no one cares either. Is that player in the HOF is usually a yes or no answer.

BB - Torre is the only lock.

FB - Probably all of them. Canton is now a joke. If you were a player - good or bad - and could see lightning and hear thunder, you have a solid chance of election.

    BB - Don't follow.

You're technically correct, but other than some nice charitable work and a stint as the coach at Harvard, what did Satch contribute besides his 8 titles? Even Tommy Heinsohn said he's been writing letters to people for years to get Sanders in. He may be in as a contributor, but he mostly contributed his playing career. Horry will definitely merit consideration...and all those ABA guys I mentioned are almost locks to get in some day.
