I ordered some vintage packs from BBCE and here's what they sent me

When paying for my cello from the last '77 Topps group break, I added a four more older Topps cellos to my order (a '78 and three '83s). While my '77 showed no stars (and contained none either), here is what my other four packs had:

'83 cello backs

HOFers on the back of every pack!* And the '78 has a Ryan and a Yaz showing! I just wanted to commend BBCE, as these are usually the type of packs you pay a premium for. While I know an '83 Topps Reggie Jackson won't make anyone rich, but I still think it's pretty cool of them to not pull these and sell them separately. I bought all of these to open, but now I think I may not want to, especially the '78 pack. Thoughts?

* = Yes, I count Pete Rose as a HOFer, no matter what Cooperstown says.
2.5 is pretty much my speed.

    That '78 is definitely slab-worthy!

Hey I was supposed to get those packs!

Unless its a big rookie I would not pay a premium for 80's racks or cellos with stars showing on the back. The front, maybe.

    Certain player collectors may.

If you search the forums, you will almost universally find that people feel pretty highly that BBCE is a solid straight-up seller. I've certainly always been happy. Glad to see that you got a great deal as well.

That's why they sent them to you...so that that you'd keep them sealed, so that you'd have to buy more! image

Nice! I'd leave them sealed. The top and bottom cards usually have bad corners.

slab the 78, sell the others. I am not a big fan of cards on the back, could probably sell them to a player collector and buy more with the profits.

I'm probably the worst person to ask, but in all seriousness I'd leave them all unopened. I would only sub the 1978 Ryan RB/Yaz pack as it is tough to find a cello pack with 2 HOFers showing. I have two unopened 1978 cello boxes and got absolutely no stars on top.

As everyone else can attest to, me included, BBCE and Steve are one of the best. image

I couldn't help it... I opened the '83s. As I know the premium would be small for the older stars, I wanted to look for one of the Big 3 hits. While I did not get any, I did get some VERY nice HOF cards, a couple of which could be 10's...

I am not going to open the '78. As many of you have said, 2 HOFers on an old pack is rare, so I'll keep it or slab it.
