Game used hockey stick, how to go about selling.

Hi people,

First post, so I hope I'm in the right forum for this. I'm not a proper collector by any means, but have a few things from my younger years. I'm looking to sell most of it, and start a collection of vintage Golf cards. Anyways, here's my situation. I have a fair bit of game used hockey pieces, but the first I'm looking to sell is a Mats Sundin Nike Elite Pro that I got when I attended the last Leafs vs. Canadians game at Maple Leaf Gardens on the 26th of December, 1998 (the last between the 2 teams at the Gardens). I remember clearly because I had been gifted the tickets by my father, who attended the game with me, the day before on Christmas.

My question is how can I go about authenticating such a piece? Is it necessary that I authenticate it before selling? I have a few photographs I got of Getty images, of Mats in game, that clearly depict the stick I have. While looking through eBay, I noticed a seller selling the same stick from that season for $4,200. Obviously that price is grossly over the top, and I suspect he's just waiting for a half decent offer to sell. What would be a reasonable price I could expect to get for this piece?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

  • Hi cmsgerr,

I did a fast check on google and found a couple Sundin game used sticks that were sold in the past and they ranged from $100-250. I think that is a pretty good idea about what you would get. That person on ebay is way over priced on his stick.

    Welcome to the boards.

The best way to see what it is valued at is to list it on Ebay and see what it sells for. You can also try the Buy/Sell/Trade on these message boards and list you items. There are a few hockey guys here (me being on of them) that would be interested in some of your stuff.

I agree with Matthew. You could list it in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum and see what kinds of offers you get. Additionally, you could list it on eBay with the Best Offer option and see what types of offers you receive.

  • Thanks guys, appreciate the input. I guess I'll start cataloging what I have and list it in the BST section.

If you have any PSA graded rookies send me a list as I would be interested in buying them.

    cmsgerr, image to the boards.

I would list in the BST board and if that does not work do a Buy it now with best offer on eBay.

Unfortunately none of my cards are graded.

Then you should just list them out and indicate the scans are available upon request. People may ask you the overall condition of the cards, but I would not state Mint, Near Mint, etc. unless you are comfortable making that assertion. You could post some scans of the cards to give people an idea of the overall condition of the majority of the cards.

Hope that helps and good luck.
