Glad to see my post got people talking!

Honestly, my intent wasn't to impugn BBCE's integrity. My personal feeling is that they are very fair in their dealings. Just look at the cellos sent out. I am not sure many would send out packs with stars showing.

My intent was to find out what their process is from beginning to end. I was under the impression that every pack and box was checked personally and carefully by the staff at BBCE. (That impression was formed by reading the posts here on the board, not anything that any representative of BBCE stated themselves.) However, that is clearly not the case. Thank you for the information, Steve.

  • Damn that's a hell of a lot less mint than my ebay cards.

Officer yank can you chime in on that mint box Gumby got?

Why am I burned at the stake for $200 worth of cards,
when someone who does how much business, probably 10's of thousands of dollars
and "should?" (right should?) know the definition of mint....
God damn man get your priorities straight. Oh wait you are just like ebay

<< <i>Thanks to everyone who participated in this rip! As of this morning, the last shipment was sent out, so all should have soon.

image Mine didn't arrive today. I hope you saved the best for last. image

I will have to wait until Thursday to rip now. Tomorrow is booked.

  • I've bought from BBCE once in a group break and had no complaints.

I just sold auctions and haven't even shipped items yet out, so how have I made things "not right", I offered to pay return shipping and refund if you didn't like an item, pretty damn sure that is "making it right"

Closed minded people bug the hell out of me more than anything.

I see an advertised mint box that is closer to poor condition

Couldn't agree more. There is a reason that Steve has the respect of this board, and a reason you don't.

So you should simply shut up, and go find another board to infect. You are done here.

    Good one, I almost laughed.
I see a box that is far from mint, that was considered mint... What am I skewing?

Feel free to come to AZ any time I'll meet with you and we can trade cardboard, you will see how bad of a person I really am.

There is a reason I've cleared 1k+ sales per show (Small shows, $45 table) for the past 10 shows I've done when half the other dealers aren't doing any business and I'm sure as hell proud of that.

Good thing you wanting me to leave is going to make me leave... idiot

Not sure how why this otherwise very entertaining thread veered into a comparison of Sean vs Steve as sellers, bit that comparison is absolutely laughable.

    Gumby,
Untouched and unopened yes. MINT, well it does appear from your scans that this box is damaged a little more than I would have liked to ship out. It was probably from one of the 4 bottom corner boxes on the case. Remind me about this on your next order and we will take care of it. We cant be perfect all the time, but we can do our best to make it work out all the time. Thanks!

  • I have a question to this Sean1125 or AZ. Do you have a store, or what is the situation with you. Where are you based out of? Just wondering, I think I have had very good dealings with you in your defense.

But in all seriousness do you have a store. I used to buy from a Sean when I was younger back in the eighties with my brother and dad. I don't want to say the name of the store, but the owner, well I want to see if this is you first, then I'll explain.

Thanks Tim. I'm not sure if I'll sub it yet. They are so tough when grading '75s. I don't think it will pull a 9. Here's a bigger scan:

It actually looks a little "sharper" in person, but it does seem to have a bit of fuzz right on the corner. Believe it or not, this was a wax card, but a cloth took all of the wax right off the front.

That Yaz has great eye appeal and Yaz is one of my favorites.

As a rookie grader I don't want to be out of line but isn't the T/B centering way off 70/30?

There are some PSA 10's posted on page 1 that I assume are correctly centered.

  • Great job Steve for the explanation. Sounds like the system you guys had just got revamped. That's why good people do great things. If there is a problem it is fixed and addressed immediately. We all go by systems in our lives and in work, the majority of times the system work beautifully, but eventually they have to be tweaked. Case in point here. I'm pretty sure there won't be a vending box going out again like that.

Sorry Gumby that you received a damaged box, but I know Steve will make it right for you. As far as anyone not liking BBCE, thanks in advance for allowing us cool aid drinkers to have some more, ya know it is hot out here for a pimp!

The backs will be an issue. Touches of grass on the upper border will get me several MC's. Including the near perfect Carrithers, Hooten, and Concepcion.

I also bought a bunch of other stuff, so I may scan and post soon.

I have a nice lot of 77 OPCs coming in from a board member. I'll combine them with my set and get my needs list together if anyone wants to trade or sell.

The only response I will give to Sean here is a "no response". Im not going to jump in and ruin a good thread on nonsense.

    Great rips everyone.

Is it an automatic MC for any 77 OPC with signs of grass above the name from the higher card on the sheet?

Correct , atleast it should be.

I have seen 2 Ryan #65 PSA 9's with grass showing on the backside.

Thanks for the info! I don't think I've seen as many MC cards right out of the pack as with 77 OPC. It seems to be pretty common with this issue, more so than with any other from the 70s.

I have, and it tastes wonderful. Show me one other dealer that has the quality product, variety in years/sports, specials/discounts, product knowledge, and personalized customer service that BBCE has. They're more than worthy of my exclusive patronage when it comes to unopened product. >>

Well it's not like I'm lining up to buy stuff from anyone else... I just wouldn't necessarily turn down a good deal from someone else if the opportunity presented itself and I was confident in the quality of the merchandise.

I just got a BBCE order today (which includes my four 1978 OPC packs from this group rip) that really impressed me. I ordered two boxes of 1986 Topps and one box of 1986 OPC along with 10 1986 Topps cello packs and some other stuff. In the e-mail I wrote to send in my order, I wrote the following:

"If you could please try to pick out a nice 86 OPC wax box without much wear, I'd appreciate it. I'm hoping to cut the cards out from the bottom of the box and send them for grading.

For the 86 Topps boxes, I don't care so much about the condition of the boxes, but I would like boxes from the same case as the one sent to me last week if possible. That box was fantastic. Thanks."

And this is what they sent... I don't know if I'll be able to cut out any 10s from the bottoms of these boxes, but because of BBCE's fantastic service, I'll at least have a shot at it. The picture is a little blurry, but I can tell you these boxes are in great condition. It was a simple, minor request, but it's one of those little things that goes a long way. Big thumbs up for BBCE here. They have customers who have been buying from them for much longer than I have and who spend a lot more than I do, but they still went out of their way to fill my request. I'm also happy to have cello packs with Pete Rose and Billy Martin showing on top.

Now THAT is some fine ripping you have ahead of you. Good luck with your box bottom grades!
  • I just opened my four 78 OPC packs. Aside from the horrible centering on most of them, the cards were in great condition and I got a bunch of good players.

Not pictured and all badly O/C: Pete Rose, Reggie Jackson, Chris Chambliss, Graig Nettles

Also got a Rice/Foster Leaders card with decent centering, but it was the gum card and lost a bit of paper from the back.

The Ryans are nice, but too O/C to be worth submitting.

The Bench is a solid 8, and I've seen 9s with that type of centering, but this one has too much tilt. Still a very clean overall card with nice corners, not too much rough edge.

Great '86 boxes! I was hoping my '89 UD boxes would show up today as the wife is out of town tonight and I could have a nice, quiet rip all to myself.

Let us know what you pulled from those '86.

  • 1986 Cello packs:

    Top/Bottom

    Billy Martin / Warren Brusstar
Pete Rose MGR / Roy Smalley
Vince Coleman RB / Dwight Gooden
Bret Saberhagan AS / Ron Guidry

    Craig McMurtry / Dwight Gooden
    Eric Davis / Karl Best
    Mariano Duncan / Jerry Royster

The other 3 packs have nobody on consequence showing, so I'm about to rip them open.

The top 4 I think I'll keep sealed. The next 3, I'm not sure yet. I like the Mariano Duncan pose batting lefty, and I'll probably rip the McMurtry pack because I already have one with Gooden showing on the bottom. Not sure what to do with the Davis pack.

I received my packs today. Woohoo

The 1975 wax, 1977 cello, and one of the 1979 cellos I will keep sealed. I think you guys are turning a ripper into a sealed pack collector, for now anyhow image.

Here is the first pack of 1977 OPC wax I opened.

Some very nice star cards all OC Jackson and Winfield are strongly miscut.

Rick burleson is nicest of all but mioscut on back with grass clearly showing on top.

    image

Pack # 2 had some nice stars also but OC. Eckersley and Brett #1 Batting Leaders

    image

There were 2 cards Al Oliver and Chris Speier that look like sure 8's and maybe 9's what do you think?

Back is almost as nice as front. I will open the 1979 cello after dinner.

  • Well my packs came on Monday.... Unfortunately, I headed out of town on that very day. Finally I get a chance to rip.

I think I'm going to leave the Carlton and Perry/Guidry packs exactly the way they are. I also got 2 of the 78 OPC packs. I'll think I'll leave one of those two unscathed as well.

I can't figure out how to upload my pics though. I created a photo bucket account and copied in the img file into the message here, but my preview came up with a broken image icon. Any help would be appreciated.

    Yup,

The Carlton and Guidry/Perry packs are nice.

    Joe
  • The '78 OPC pack was awful. The best "star" in the pack was Jose Cruz. The centering was horrible too.

The '79 pack didn't have much either. I have never sent anything in to PSA, so I have no idea on the Bonham, but it appeared to be the best of the bunch.

Nothing much in the '81 pack. I did get two old Pirates on other teams (Al Oliver and Rennie Stennett)

    image
  • Even though I didn't get anything of note, it was a blast. I'll do it again in a heartbeat.

I'm off to bust open an '89 Upper Deck box...
