Value of 1999 (or maybe its a 2000) Topps HD GOLD Jeter auto?

Anyone know what the selling value of this Jeter auto'd card? I was told it was a very rare SP because it is the gold version. I see there was a regular blue auto on ebay that sold for 110.

The reverse copywrite says 1999 but it may be a 2000

I have never seen a gold auto, there were only two autos in that set, the other one was a Ripken autograph which was a redemption and I believe had a print
run of only 50, the redemptions expiration date was a year after the product hit which means it was a VERY rare card, I don't know about the Jeter. Still a nice
    on card autograph.

Any chance someone wiped off the blue (maybe the auto was messed up) and then forged the auto in gold? Cuz that gold auto looks very shaky.

That could very well be the nature of the paint pen too. They don't "flow" very well.

  • The auto certainly doesn't flow smoothly, but doesn't mean it's not real. I'll try to find some info.

I just checked Beckett's database and they had no mention of a gold version. I opened up quite a bit of HD in 2000 and don't remember those cards
being available in gold. There is even a pic on beckett of the card signed in blue. It would be very easy to erase that sig (with alcohol) and forge a
    gold sig. Sorry

Someone on SCN commented that the autos on those cards tended to fade. Possible that someone retraced with the Gold pen. But looking at other blue sigs, even if retraced, the blue autos look to be a lot more fluent than that.

very hard to tell, like I said there were only two guys on the autograph checklist and the other was a Ripken card that is very rare.

I think its pretty clear I have to pass on it. Too bad, I'd love to trade for another Jeter auto.

from what I have seen on ebay it looks like card the card may have been traced over in gold..what a waste. beautiful card.
  • After comparing the sigs from the June 5th sale I would safely say fake. The blending of the letters aren't smooth enough, the tails aren't the same, the auto looks shaky and forced, look at the ending. The last flow of the pen. Completely different.

No auto expert, but wouldn't want anything to do with it.
