BBCE Monthly Group Box Break! Will be available 6/11 around 6pm. You will need to reply to that thr

I've been talking with a few board members regarding a regular monthly break. It seems they come up anyway, but are just random.

So this is just to see if you all regular participants would want to take part in a monthly one.

Here are some thoughts, and please give opinions and ideas and we can bulid it from there.

So let's say we have a break on the 15th of every month. By the 10th we would announce what products are going to be involved, what years, prices, packs/boxes, etc.

We kick it off on the 15th and have just some basic guidelines where there would be a maximum you could get. Instaed of the 10 cello's of 77 Topps I just bought, maybe it's 5 is the most someone could get. This would allow for others to take part. If there is enough interest then we add another box if available. I hosted that 9K break back in February and it went pretty smooth. There are others on here that have done a great job doing the same thing.

I think this way more would be involved and we could break more all at once.

I've taken part in vintage, 80's runs, 86 Fleer Basketball, boxes here and there, Football 80's, Mid to late 70's Football, etc over the past few years here. All have gone great, and BBCE is really the one handling the packs and money. So that takes the risk away for the most part.

It's getting late and I've had a long day, so I'll wrap it up.

Let me, us, the boards know what you think. This way we may be able to get slightly better pricing, more ranges, years, sports, and finally buying power. The strength is in numbers.

Let the board know what you think. It would be great to kick off a Monster break mid July.

Take care,

Mike

This would be good. Everyone would know it is coming.

5 packs is a good max, as someone mentioned in an other post to open it up to a higher # after a set time if unsold.

I don't know if everyone could wait another month for the next break. image
    These breaks seem very popular.

Any baseball unopened from 1970-1980 and I'm in! Steve does have a 1970 Topps baseball wax box, which would be quite a feat, if we could pull that one off, but I'm down for anything from that decade.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
  • He also has a 75 topps box, 77 Topps Cello's, 78 Opc, 79 box. We could put that all into one break with the 70 box.

Is there any interest in that 70 box. If you are interested I did the numbers and it's roughly 260 per pack??

Let the board know heat ya want and we'll get together over the next day or so.

There is also some Jeter 93 SP with 3,000 hits coming.

We could do a nice mix. 84 donruss anyone.

Let me know and let's get er done!

That may be too steep, for a board rip, and the 4th series is not as appealing as other series in the 70 set, but if the packs were in mint condition, I'd be in for one or two.

Edit to add: The 75 regular size box, otoh, looks like a slam dunk!

I agree with Mike (miconelegacy) that a regular monthly break would benefit the board and allow more people to join in.

    Some of my thoughts/suggestions:
    1) I think a 4 pack limit is perfect for a multiple box break as wax, cello, and rack boxes are easily divisible by 4.
    2) I think a 24 hour window for anyone who wishes to join the monthly break works well as everyone would know it was coming up anyway.
    3) Once the 24 hour window is up, We should allow the break members to each add 1 pack at a time so we don't have a mad rush when the 24 hour period is over.
    4) We should post it at a specified time as well which works for both the east and west coasts. Maybe 10pm EST.
    5) Maybe on the 10th of the month, we could gauge interest on the various boxes that BBCE has available to us.

    Great idea!

I agree limiting the number of packs to 4 or 5 would work well.

I would also like to figure out a way to get everyone who joins the rips to announce their results, even if the packs are remaining unopened. Seems like we only hear from about half the rippers, although I'm guilty too.

80% of football games are won and lost on the line of scrimmage. That means any given game is likely to be decided by a bunch of fat monsters trying to beat the crap out of each other. It's simply an application of brute force. I'd rather watch wrestling. At least there are story lines.

I would say no to the core group... just let people jump in and out when they see something they like. I've been annoyed that I've missed the past few rips only to see some people take 10+ packs.

I would be in for the monthly group rip as well.
    Project:

    T206 Set - 300/524
  • Alright I'll get working on a nice Rip. Something for everyone, but will start with Baseball only first.

Then in July we will definately do a Football and Hockey Rip.

    Sound okay.

Here is what I am thinking...

75 Topps Box- $3250 with discount $2925 or $81.25 per pack.
77 OPC Box-$650 with discount $585 or 12.18 per pack.
77 Topps Cello Box-$990 with discount or $41.25 per pack.
78 OPC Box-$350 with discount $315 or $8.75 per pack.
79 Topps Cello-$375 with discount $337.5 or $14.06 per pack.

I think this will be good to start with a Mid to high 70's break. The next baseball break we will do 1980 up to 1985.

But in July we will schedule a Football/Hockey break. I don't buy hockey at all, but would be interested in getting some packs at a chance for some Gem RC's!!

Let me know your thoughts on the break above. This seems reasonable and there will be a limit of 4 packs per product per person. The break would go live on the 15th. I will figure out the time. We will then allow anyone to participate for a certain period. Maybe 24 hours or 48 hours. Once that passes it's open to anyone. If we sell out a box quickly we will add another if there is enough interest.

    Any questions???

Sorry I tend to be a bit of a leader.

    Sounds good to me Mike.

The only thing I might add is that if someone goes in on multiple boxes, they should be limited to 2 cello packs initially otherwise if everyone wants 4 cellos packs per box, only 6 people will get in on the rip. I think 4 packs works fine for the wax packs.

I'm in. I'd suggest accumulating the list of monthly rippers. 2 packs or cellos max each. Those on the list get cellos and packs in order, if they don't pay within 24hrs, it goes to next on list. If they don't want the current offer, it goes to next on list.

  • There will be a new thread starting tomorrow around 6pm. You will need to reply to the new thread for your packs. No PM's. That way everyone can see who gets what etc.

I will keep track of it all and it is first come first serve. It will be open for anyone for 24 hours, or until Sunday night at 6pm. After that it is fair game for anyone. 4 pack maximum per product per box during the open 24 hour period. There are only 1 box of each 75 topps and 79 Cello Baseball. The others have another if we need to add.

We have to have it all sold out, then we can pay and have them shipped. Look for the thread tomorrow night around 6pm.

Thanks and feel free to ask any questions or add suggestions. Here is the product breakdown.

75 Topps Box- $3250 with discount $2925 or $81.25 per pack.
77 OPC Box-$650 with discount $585 or 12.18 per pack.

Isn't the point of having a set group break monthly to avoid the mad dash to get packs? I'm at a family event tomorrow night, but I'd love 2 77 cellos? Anyone interested in a more private gentlemens group that does boxes monthly, you buy into two slots per month automatically, you vote on the box to break, and if you sit out - an alternate takes your spot?

I agree with nendee. You'll end up with 20 posts right at 6pm tomorrow.

    We could try the following:
    1. Anyone interested in this group box break posts to the thread and includes how many packs they want in priority order.
    2. After 24 hours, we take that list and start assigning packs from each box based on each person's preferences 2 packs at a time in the order of the posts.
    3. Once everyone has their first 2 packs (or one if that is all they wanted), we begin the process again with the next 2 packs and so on until the boxes fill up.

Or we could go for chaos. image

  • I agree that a 24-hour initial offering with a 4-pack limit followed by a total free-for-all is not the best way to go. I have a plan that will slow things down a bit, but when compared to 45-day turnaround time on grading, this won't seem THAT slow. And since it will be a regularly monthly occurrence, everyone can plan ahead and know exactly what to anticipate. So here's my suggestion. First, keep the 4-pack limit in effect for 96 hours rather than 24. If the first box of a given product isn't sold out after 96 hours, allow anyone to order an additional 4 packs (total of 8) during hours 96-144. This gives everyone who wants to participate six full days to reserve 1-8 packs while a limit is in effect for everybody else. After 6 days, open it up without any limit, so if someone wants to be a hog and grab half a box of something, nobody will be able to complain.

I would also suggest adjusting the limit for each product based on how many total packs BBCE has available. For instance, when BBCE only has a single box, make the initial limit two packs, and the extended limit (during days 5 and 6) four packs. If two boxes are available, the initial limit should be four packs, and the extended limit eight packs. When three or more boxes of a product are available, the initial 96-hour limit should still be four packs, but then the extended limit should be eliminated, since it's not really necessary anyway. The number of packs per box can also be considered when tailoring a limit for each specific product.
  • I agree with you all, since we are the ones wanting it, if others have an issue with waiting then oh well.

I like crazy minds the best, but let's do a 48 hour initial, followed by 48 hour follow up for those who already got 2 packs.

It just feels like everyone is going to be waiting for the 3rd and 4th day. Remember I will be keeping track of it all, so I don't want to spend hours and hours on this.

So are we cool with trying 2 packs first 48 hours, followed by another 2 if available over the next 48 hours, then open for anyone? This way should definitely sell it out in 5 days??

We can still start it tomorrow around 6.

Let me know mike, nendee, and crazy mind. Or anyone else.

    Thanks,

  • It seems like this is becoming much too difficult for something so simple. They system wasn't broke in my opinion. Sure a few people will miss out or be left out but that's the nature of the beast. Even with a new system implemented people will still miss out. The faster everything sells out, the faster people receive their packs and cards. I vote for the old school way, but will gladly participate in the new format. If anyone runs a group rip in the future please don't feel forced to abide by any system.
  • I think there are many positive reasons for an organized format.

    1. More can get involved
    2. There are more than just Baseball collectors here.
    3. The strength is in numbers and that's how we can get 10 percent off.
    4. With a set plan each month, everyone can budget accordingly. Remember less than 2 percent make six figures or more. Although there are some deep pockets on here.
    5. I just feel the half the fun is sharing, posting pics, sharing your grades(PSA) only! JK
    6. With a continuous process, suggestions on product etc can be made.

I think we can bust some high end stuff, get some modern in here once in awhile(2011 Bowman anyone? I have 2 cases...). JK again.

So anyway we'll get this one off tonight and see how it goes, but the next one will be Football and Hockey.

As always I'm open to feedback. Feedback without a relationship is just harassment. Lol.
