Henry VI was a mere nine months old when he succeeded to the throne of England upon his father's (Henry V) death in August 1422. This coin was struck during his childhood, most likely sometime between 1425 and 1427 as suggested by Lord Stewartby in English Coins 1180-1551. The portrait on the obverse is very similar to that used on coins of Henry V, which could indicate that the diemakers believed that the (very) young king would eventually have a similar look to his father. In reality, it probably was easier for the diemakers to keep the old portrait with a few minor differences (most likely the eyebrows). The city where this coin was struck, Calais, lies on the English Channel, in the extreme northwest of France. It was an integral part of the English Kingdom for two centuries from 1347 until Calais was finally recovered by the French in 1558.

A nice historical piece with original toning, unclipped, with excellent eye-appeal.
