Found this card as a kid

This card was amongst a bunch of 80's garbage that someone gave me as a kid. When I found it, I was thrilled, even with the poor condition. I came across it today and I still remember when I found it, it made me smile. Just thought I'd share.

I hear you. It was great when we were kids and didn't care about the condition just that it was a vintage card of a great player.

    Thanks for sharing.

Very nice story. A similar thing happened to me when I was young. No big name card but mixed in a box of beat up 70's cards was a handful from 1956. They were like gold to me. The 80's were a great time to be a card collector.

Nice to know that the HOBBY part of collecting still exists!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Nice hobby grade card. I got some nice 1961s from a friend when I was a kid. They were his dad's. My mom thought she did a big favor for me when she bought a wall mount plastic card display and inserted all my 1961s in it. The cards were inserted by sliding them behind plastic tabs that grabbed both edges of the cards. The Mantle and Maris ended up with deep gouging along the borders.

Especially when you could go to your local card shop, hang out for a while, and pick up T206's for ~$5.
  • First baseball card I ever had was a 1976 Clarence Gaston. Found it on the school playground in 1976. Didn't collect. Heck, Toronto didn't even have a team. I hung onto it. Then, 15 years later, Cito Gaston is managing my hometown Blue Jays. What are the odds?
