Do you think it's a 67 or do you think the mark on the cheek holds it back?

I hope so. I always warn about paying moon money and here,

I become a space man. Boy the air is mighty thin up here.image

Yes, the mark troubled me some, but I liked the overall look

of the coin so much, that I went for it hook, line and sinker.

I have already been outbid on every nice toned commem I went after, and I am thinking the market is either coming back or there are one or two people with no sense at all bidding these coins up, in any case I am going to let reason prevail and not get auction fever, which by the way has no medical cure. image

I have notice that high grade and rare type coins, were going for much more then strong money.

Either people are getting rid of greenbacks or their is a growing criticality to the existing

shortage of high quality coins. The dregs of coindom of course are lagging , price wise.

I was outbid and went to bed. Coin was nice, premium for the grade. I hope it upgrades or someone will be buried in that coin.
If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?

I was bidding on 6 coins. All 6 went for more than the highest of the listed "realized prices". I lost all 6.

Are these extraordinary high prices the norm, or is there a true bidding

war going on for high quality type coins and toned Commems?

I put in a very strong bid for this 1813 CBH but was out bid.

The same coin sold at CSNS last year. A year later it jumped 40% in price.

    I'm 1 for 8.

Some of these prices are just crazy.

On the other hand, MANY high-grade commems went UNSOLD today.

Didn't win anything today again, but that's cool image

One of the coolest items in the auction that I bid on was Lot 4379, the HK-1 1826 Erie Canal Completion Medal. Didn't know too much about them, but I came across it during lot viewing and saw that it had the original box it was issued in. Was very neat so I had to put a bid in. Apparently they're worth quite a bit more than I thought image

I did a little research on these medals and couldn't figure out what the box itself was made of. About half the sources I found said the box was made from wood which was carried on the first boat to go through the Erie Canal. This is what the Heritage description says. The other half of the sources say the box was made from the wood of the acutal first boat to go through the Erie Canal the Seneca Chief. This is what the inscription on the paper inside to box seems to say. I think it would be much cooler for the box to be made from the first boat rather than just some wood that was transported by the first boat. But either way, I thought it was a neat piece of history and I'll get one someday image

I've bid on maybe 6 or 7. So far I've been blown out of the water. Every single one is going for at least 20% higher than any realized price for grade. I'm not even making it to the day of the floor auction. It seems strange. I'm looking for a few Peace dates in 64 or 65 and a few circulation pieces from the early 1900s for a type set. No luck yet.

Think the almighty dollar is worth what it was a couple of years ago? The whole aucitons seems strange to me, but I'm a total NewB.

BTW, that 18-S SLQ is nice!
