Help Me Decide Which is better to own?

All things being equal, would all of you all-knowing board members rather have a 65 Topps Namath PSA 8 or a 63 Topps Rose PSA 8.5? Let me hear your opinions. Thanks.

  • Why not have both? They are both awesome, I think you decide which player you like better. You cannot go wrong with either one, and I think they both keep their value for a long time. I look forward to the scan of the winner.

A real strong 8 in the Namath. (Great Centering)

Namath likes to get hammered and hit on chicks and Pete Rose likes to gamble so you are in good company.

If I had to bet long term I would take the Namath as my guess would be a lower print run of football cards.

The '65 Namath is an iconic football HOF rookie card from a tough tallboy set. Plus, he played in a big market and is still beloved by New Yorkers.

Pete Rose, on the other hand, is still hated by many, many people and very likely will not have the same level of admiration even if someday he is eventually admitted to the HOF. Although, an eventual HOF admission would probably give Rose's rookie a bump in price.

Looking at both sides, I would personally go with the Namath.
  • Before I read through the exact same things ran through my mind from last two posts.

I believe the Iconic nature of the Namath and Rose will stand in value over the long haul. There are a lot of Rose fans, but there are a lot of haters too.

Is this from an investment option or if collecting, what does your gut tell you, and are you more of a Football or Baseball fan/collector?

    Instinct...

When in doubt, go with the gut!

As a Baseball fan, I'd have to go with the one that has the most potental.

Namath is a HOF'er, rose is not (and should never be eligable).

    Broadway Joe is my vote.

Namath. The Rose is ugly as hell.

    Tough.........
How is the centereing on the Namath. Thats the only way I could couse. If its a 60-40 centered Namath Id take the Namath and I love Pete Rose.
  • I would go with the Namath,

one it is a great looking card.

two it is much rarer than the Rose rookie.

63 Rose is one of the ugliest cards ever. Who the hell approved that layout for those rookie cards that year?

Don't understand why people think Rose shouldn't ever be in the Hall of Fame. I believe him that he never bet against the Reds or attempted to ever throw a game or play down in a game. Yet we have murders and rapists in the hall of fame but not someone who gambled and hustled even harder to win those bets.

I'd go with the Rose unless we collect cards based on how "hot" the player is. For me personally, I don't give a hoot how ugly or "cute" the player is. I'd take a Don Mossi card over Lee Mazilli any day. Having said that, I think Namath is overrated. He had a few great seasons but overall he was an average QB, even considering the era he played in. On the other hand, Rose was the all-time hit leader and played the game like there was no tomorrow. I'm no fan of Rose but I respect the way he played the game and his accomplishments.
