I'm throwing out the first pitch tomorrow

scmavlscmavl Posts: 1,409 ✭✭✭
I'll be throwing out the first pitch at the minor league (Class A) game tomorrow night. The company I work for is sponsoring fireworks after the game, so they wanted a representative for the pitch. I sure hope I can get it over the plate! I haven't played organized ball in 25 years, and that was Tee Ball!

You can stand in front of the mound and lessen the distance to throw. Don't throw to the glove. Throw the ball between the catchers eyes. Unless you are a finely tuned athlete or have a lot of adrenalin flowing the ball will drop a good bit by the time it gets to the catcher. If it sails over his head, I apologize in advance.

Stand on the mound, and give it your best Juan Marichal... image

Thanks for the advice, Brick. That could prove helpful

Maybe I'll just go for a Quisenberry instead though. Ha!

You could use the old "tie a string to the ball and the catcher's mitt trick" image

hope he stretched and warmed-up a little before he left home?

Freak out the catcher and imitate Mark Fydrich before you get on the mound.

    OP here...
I got up on the mound, leaned over and squinted at the catcher. The announcer said "He waits for a sign... that he's not going to get..." I wound up and let it go...

    BALL!

It was dead center, but a bit high (chest high if there had been a batter) but hey, that's better than throwing it in the dirt. It was a good time all around. And they gave me the ball. image

Why would they make an offer when Grote is still available? image
