I have a couple of new arrivals from the Rauch auction in May. I like the crusty look on the 1602 in particular.

1602 - Rudolf II - Kremnitz mint

1612 - Rudolf II - Hall mint

You've got to love those big early 17th C. pieces, very nice.

Those die cracks on his face on the 1612 give him a rather motley "horror movie" appearance.

The other thing that I find interesting on the 1612 is the planchet flaw that runs top to bottom in front of his face. It is not very evident in the picture, but the crack appears to stop at the nose and then picks back up again below the chin. It looks like it might be a planchet stress crack perhaps?

Very nice pickups. The kremnitz pieces are very tough to find nice. Inferior technology compared with the hall mint counterparts. Lovely toning on that 1612
