I have a collection of all kinds of counterfeits, Henning Nickels, $1 gold-10 gold, counterfeit Morgans and even other counterfeit bullion only coins as these prices bring it all out ad I mean all even Washington's and Roosies.. 2 years ago when gold was $800-$900 oz a board member offered me an Omega Counterfeit for I think $1100. I passed as the coin had been systematically notched with wire cutters all the way around the rim, maybe 20 cuts or so. It was enough to kick myself now as I have not seen another clean or not for sale since. So have you seen an Omega? Have you owned own?

(Just so there is no misunderstanding, it was identified as an Omega, and was not for sale at that time.)
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

You did the right thing. That premium was too high for a badly damaged fake that may or may not have had the full gold content of a double eagle. Have you tried running a buy post on the BST forum? Someone may have one or know someone that has one. Doesn't hurt to try.

It was the subject of a cable show a few years back...History Channel(?)
<< <i>In both Iraq and Afghanistan you could buy a Counterfeit Omega watch for $20... is that what you're asking Jeff? You didn't buy any while you were there? I can pick you one up if you really want one?
The omega counterfeit that he is refering to is a MCMVII high relief Saint with a microscopic greek letter omega in the eagle's talon. The theory is that the counterfeiter signed his work and that is why he is refered to as the omegaman. He also produced a counterfeit gold $3 coin with a microscopic omega in the upper loop of the R in LIBERTY.
