Opinions please regarding fundraising

I just received some heartbreaking news on the way home from a classmate of mine. We have a fellow classmate whose one year old son was recently diagnosed with cancer. There is a small group of us that will be doing some fundraising to help in their fight. They are doing a bake sale and raffle at a local supermarket to raise money for the family. Honestly, my first thought was to go to my fellow PSA board members. I know that there have been other successful fundraisers here on the board and I'd like to ask your opinion on the proper way to go about this. In a nut shell, I have a few things that I'd like donate, to either have some type of bidding or raffle for. Also do it without breaking forum rules or etiquette. So my questions are, what is the correct forum(if there is one) and what's the best way to go about it. The group has raised $500 so far and I am in no rush to raise money. I will post details and other information as I get it tomorrow. I will be bringing a San Diego Chargers jersey and hat to the fundraiser in the morning. For future reference, I've already decided to donate, utilizing this board,a 1985 GPK Series 1 pack that I received from BBCE(non-sport group rip). I will also have a couple pairs of Nike shoes and Transformers to donate to the cause.

Toro ... that is a GREAT thing you are doing. As the dad of a little girl who was diagnosed with Cancer when she was three years old (NINE HUNDRED consecutive days of Chemo) and the husband of a great lady who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer 3.5 years ago, I applaud your efforts.

My suggestion would be to post the item on the B/S/T Forum, along with a picture, and tell everyone that it is an auction item. I would also tell them why you are auctioning the item and where the money is going.

As far as the actual auction, I would state a date and time when the auction ends. I would also have people make ALL bids ON YOUR THREAD. This way every person knows what the bids are.

In addition, whenever you start your auction LMK. I will add a few signed cards to your thread to auction. They wont make you hundreds of dollars, but at least it will help the family.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Dboneesq, I was specifically waiting for your recommendation and I thank you for it. Honestly, I'm following the example you set on these boards and in our hobby. What you did for your girls is the reason I thought of these boards. I know that there have been some great fundraisers here and I'm confident that this one will be no different because of the great and passionate board members. Thanks for the info and tips and I think the auction route in B/S/T will work. I'll post tomorrow evening after the local fundraiser with more details of our classmate.
  • Doug summed it up pretty well. Even though there is usually some bickering and general disagreements you will find that as a whole this board is usually very generous and willing to help in situations like this. Hope you raise a ton for them!
