Question. Why doesn’t PCGS recognize the "overdate" variety? As PCGS just called it a "1848"

Per the Swedish coin, I think this is a case of the original submitter not noting the variety on the submission form because he wasn't aware of the overdate or didn't see it and PCGS left it as is. Krause lists the overdate, and it is easily visible in person. In fact in my picture that you posted below, you can see the top of the 5 above the 8, and that picture isn't even a close-up.
