If a PSA 9 sells for $325 (pop 16) what would you pay for an 8.5?

The card in question has a POP report as follows...
1 - PSA 10
16 - PSA 9
1 - PSA 8.5
and a ton of 8s
Two PSA 9s just sold for $330 and $325 this past weekend one day apart (I don't know their past history and if this is an increas). I have a shot to buy the one and only PSA 8.5 but wondered what you think a fair price would be for it. It was sold last year for $151ish and is back on the block.

I know the history, but honestly I would think an 8 or 8.5 should be in the $50-80 range.
I don't see the demand.
It's really about how bad do you want it.

<< <i>was there a particular reason you passed on both PSA 9's? >>
I passed on the one to see where it ended up so that I could bid on the second. Then I was outbid by 86 cents. Should have watched the auction end.
Oh well.

Hey Jim,
I agree that the 8.5 should be lower too. 8s sell for around $30. I think I will wait for the next 9.

I would say 80-115 would be a fair price, the 8.5 looks great on the front, but the only reason I would pay more than 115 , would be to resubmit it for review to bump to a 9 or crack it out and resub and hope for a 9, the L/R centering is probably why it got an 8.5 instead of a 9.
I would be a cheapskate and buy a really nice looking 8 for 20-40 bucks but that's me. if it was an older card 1969 or earlier, I could see an 8.5 bringing 160 to 200, but with it being a modern card 1980 to present, i would wait for more to be graded. out of the 99 that have been graded 52-8's, 1-8.5, 16-9's, 2-10's, so it seems to be popular card to be graded out of the 1980 set and not a real difficult card to get an 8 or higher.
just my 2 cents.
So is this a good rule of thumb for cards in fairly high demand ( like vintage HOFers) by vintage I mean pre 1970.

Really?
hopes for the .5 system would have been correct.
...While PSA graders will evaluate all of the attributes possessed by a card in order to determine if the card may be eligible, there will be a clear focus on centering...
The remainig definition of the standard......
Generally speaking, a card must exhibit centering that is 5-10% better, at minimum, than the lowest % allowed within a particular grade.
It is important to note that there may be cases where the overall strength of the card, such as the quality of the corners and print, will give the card the edge it needs despite the fact that it may exhibit only marginal centering for the grade. This is especially true for cards that find themselves within the bottom half of the PSA 1-10 scale.
.....certainly gives more than enough leeway to call the subject card
an "8.5," but that does not mean the centering is not distracting.
LOTS of 8s are prolly just as nice AND centered.
