Eagle Eye Photo Seal Issue

Received an 1880 PCGS PR66RD CAM 1C on consignment with an Eagle Eye Photo sticker on it but when I do the look up it comes up as no good. Would this discourage you from making the purchase?

It may have been removed from another slab and put on this one. It looks tampered with.

I agree, it looks tampered with. Now I might be concerned about the seller.

Thanks for the post - I had no idea there was a EERC-PS lookup capability. image

I've been thinking about my own grading service for stickers and will call this AU-55.
  • I bet that sticker was taken off another coin

Should have come with a card also with a picture of the slab on the card. The sticker looks messed with as other members have pointed out.

BUT, if you like the coin and agree with the grade, don't worry about it.

I think only Rick has records of which coins he photo seals, so I don't understand why you wouldn't simply give him a call.

The coin is OK. The sticker needs replacement.

I have only myself to enter the information in the database, and as such, it gets pushed back. I'm sorry it's not yet in the database, but it is a genuine Photo Seal.

If you have ever tried to get one of these stickers off, you'll know that they are nearly impossible to remove in any shape good enough to put on another coin.

Also, I don't have a "No good" option on my look up. it either comes back as OK or not in the database. If a coin is not in the database it is not "no good"

Did you mean to say, "If a coin is not in the database it is not necessarily "no good" "

Yea I know buy the coin and not the sticker. If I did not like the coin I would have sent it back with posting here. By doing the look up on Rick’s web site I thought I was "calling Rick" without disturbing him. I have tons of books about coins, spend why to much time on the internet looking at coins but it still does not make me 1% as knowledgeable as Rick so, at least to me, his opinion caries a great deal of weight. I would like thank everybody for replying to my post.

By "no good", I meant the sticker and not the coin. Sorry for the confusion.

I never knew there was a photo seal look up on the website. I tried to look up one of my photo seal coins, my 1908-S IHC in NGC MS66RB and it wasn't in the database either. I thought maybe I wasn't typing in the number in the right format so I checked the pop report for that date and grade and it lists a pop of ZERO! Checked another coin and it also said no result found. I know they are legit photo seals so I'm not worried, but it seems that if you're in doubt you need to contact Rick, don't rely on the website lookup or pop report alone.

I'd love to see some straight on pics of the coin....it looks pretty sweet!

    It is a sweet coin.

I suppose when I get some time, I'll have to update the database. image
