1985 O-pee-chee Randy Macho Man Savage Rookie Card

I have long thought a high grade Macho Man card would do well. His recent death for a time has changed the demand for his merchandise.
If a PSA 9 Macho Man surfaces it will do very well.
Here is a copy of his card in strong condition.

It is going to be so tough to find a card worthy of PSA 9 or PSA 10 of this issue.
My orginal estimate was $75 to $100 for a PSA 9. That number is now $225 to $350.
So tough to find these in good condition let alone Mint. There is going to be a rush of demand for sealed stuff when it surfaces and wax will be broken looking for the elusive Macho Man in Mint condition.
That is a card I would certainly keep if I had it.
Sorry - just realized it's on the title.
I remember seeing him on TV.
If there were a ton of these out there an avalanche of supply would have hit the market.
Also, i don't think this set is really from 85. I think there are some cards from wrestlemania 2 which i think was 86. I could be wrong.... but i thought i remember seeing some. i'm sure Dpek could provide a little more color on this
The packs contain seven cards and one has a gum stain the other a wax stain. The centering is horrible on many and the coalition the same. This means you get 180 cards to work with and there are 75 in the set.
The boxes are hard to find and they generally want a lot. I bought a box for $150 some time ago and was really only looking for high grade specimens.
The Savage card is the big money card from the set. There are a few others in there worth subbing only in a PSA 9 or higher.
There have not been many cards subbed from this set but I suspect that will follow as people will want to find a graded Macho Man rookie.
As for the 1986 question. I agree that they are. What is interesting is the front of the box says 1985, when you flip it over it has a stamp celebrating 75 years in business and says 1911 to 1986. There are cards from Wrestlemania II in here and that happened on April 7th 1986 so my best guess is these came out in the latter part of 1986.
With the Mike Tyson Panini rookie I know the year on the holders are in question too.
This card is the true rookie of Macho Man and is a sweet looking card with him and Elizabeth.

<< <i>wow, Over 25 percent of the performers from Wrestlemania VII have died

Certainly steroid and other drug use, as well as the body constantly getting slammed around in the ring even though it is scripted, is certainly not conducive to a long life span.
Many of the performers on the list were big men such as Andre, Earthquake, and Big Boss Man.
The reason this awful outcome will not repeat itself is the WWE has a real drug policy now.
If you simply look at the performers many are no larger then 210 pounds and some as small as 165 pounds.
The 80's wrestling explosion saw men with physiques that were simply not imaginable. Hawk who is on this list was from the Road Warriors and was legitamately 275 pounds and could bench press north of 600 pounds. His demise was excellerated by steroids but the real issue was large amounts of recreational drugs.
The need to constantly get bigger to compete with other performers was a primary cause for the excessive steroid abuse. Many of the performers were already heavily using steroids and met other wrestlers at gyms or bars and they suggested they give a shot at becoming a pro wrestler becuase of their insanse size. This is the case with Hawk and Animal of the Road Warriors.
The other huge problem was they were working in many cases 350 nights a year and in some cases twice in a day and while it is quite evident the matches are predetermined, getting slammed so agressively on a consistant basis and having no other choice but to perform when hurt led to huge amounts of prescription drugs being used. What so many don't realize is that many performers wanted the matches to appear as real as possible and they took a huge amount of punishment in the ring.
One of the most sad names on that list is one of my personal favorites Kerry Von Erich. He and his brothers worked the extremely physical Texas territory where real life shoots happened in the ring frequently. With pro wrestlers being in many cases larger then rock stars in the 80's, the money, women and party life style was in their face and ready for the taking if they wanted it. Many were not strong enough to say no. Kerry was set to go to jail at 33 for falsifying a presription and decided he must take his own life.
There will never be another era ever for pro wrestling like the 80's and for the fans this is good and bad. The performances are awful today in comparison but the losing so many lives is not worth the entertainment value.

I can confirm that the 1985 cards were released later in 1986.I remember my dad getting 4 packs of 1986 Football and 2 packs of the wrestling cards each week.
I listed my final Macho Man rookie with the other card from the set and just looked and it was taken at full offer for $79.99.
Looking to BUY n332 1889 SF Hess cards and high grade cards from 19th century especially. "Once you have wrestled everything else in life is easy" Dan Gable
