1970 topps #654 question

hello i would like to know why the 1970 topps #654 oscar gamble rookie sells for a premium on most auctions. the one i have in my set is ex to ex+ due to centering. for the dedicated collectors of this set what is the story behind this card. i have tracked the last three that have sold on ebay set breaks and the ones that are exmt or better sell for about 30.00 on average. thank for any information.

  • It is in the last series of Topps from that year, which makes it more rare. That, and OG is awesome.

Centering issues plague this card along with quite a few others from the 1970 set. Anyone who has the card in nice condition and well centered can pretty much ask a premium for the card. I've seen PSA-8 commons sell for over $100 because they are very difficult to find well centered.

Plus - as pointed out in a recent thread - he has great hair!!!
  • 1970, the most underrated set of the 70's IMO is plagued by off center cards. It aactually referred to as the off center year. MANY cads are VERY TOUGH to find centered and demand a premium... including many of the mets cards, kekich, kilkenny, and of course Orlando Cepeda.
In the USA all men are created equal but some are more equal than others....
