WINNER! CONTEST: Your vote for the most Insane Thread on this forum yet: WINNER!

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,126 ✭✭✭✭✭
This Registry Forum has now been in existence for awhile now, right? What is the most INSANE Thread to date? If you can remember a key word in that thread title you can even bring it back to life with a LINK.

-I'll send the best LINK provider a free coin (dated prior to 1800. Ok- it 'might' be a Gallery Mint repro- but it'll be cool!).

Winner announced, below!

Link I think this has to be the most insane because it finally proves that Alan Hager recognizes the value and superiority of PCGS, even though he knew it all along.image

I think this one takes the cake.

it's like a short story that starts out bad, real bad, and then ends on a positive note.

    Well, isn't this special?
I assume all are going to take this thread with a grain of salt. I'm sure it is offered in good spirit, and it is timed during our cease-fire, so here goes...
    Here's my (no ill-will) vote.
To me, the thread accusing Rick, with the ol' "respected, prominent dealer, two page CW advertiser" veil, (only to found out the poster was wrong), was the most insane thread of late.
The subsequent statement of " I have been screwed by dealers in the past", instead of an appropriate public apology, only (im)proves the insanity, as the poster's latter two threads were long, but seemingly meaningless. I especially would like to point out that the reason this thread (the third link, from this forum) should win, hands down, is the "Thank goodness I never named the dealer..." part. image Have fun.

  • Who can forget the whole thread on whether High Desert leased coins?

Too many companion threads to link them, but this was the one that started it all.

    Keith ™

  • Keith beat me to it, but I agree with him 100%. That whole thread, and all of the others that spawned off of it were the most INSANE, CRAZY and BIZARRE of all time.

If memory serves there was a couple of Heritage threads that brought in Greg Rohan VP to defend himself. I liked that one. It was fun in a wacky screwed up sort of way!!!

I will follow Keith on the idiot thread of when High Desert was leasing coins. (the idiot part is my take, and does not mean anyone agree's with me)

To make this interesting- I'll not only send the LINK provider a 1796 MS65 coin (!) I'll also send one to the LINKEE (the subject of the INSANE Thread).
Sound good? (Or, would that be offensive to the winner?)

Pat: I think the leasing thread turned out "insane" as well and I would be more than happy to "accept your award" for that thread. But, the purpose of that thread was not meanspirited - just the opposite (and behind the scenes benefits did occur as a result of the issue being raised) and this board has already suffered "fallout" from the situation as "High Desert" does not "drop in" here very often anymore (as you may have noticed).

It's a bit dissapointing to me that at a time of "total calm" around here a thread such as this needs to rekindle negativity. I know you did not intend that, but the contest could have just as easily been for the most meaningful thread this forum has ever witnessed - but that would probably be all too easy as I am not sure many threads could exceed the meaningfulness and significance of the Firefighters thread(s).

In any event, as mentioned, I would be more than happy to accept your free coin for the leasing thread should that be your vote image Wondercoin. image

Though I can't link to them because I guess they are too old, some of the CC2K threads about his high grade MS dollars were amusing. I wonder where ole CC2K is right now.....

Well, in that case, I nominate my thread I started a few days ago that lists everybody's registry set. I've got to be pretty insane to type all of that crap!

Wait, if that thread wins, wouldn't everybody who has a set listed in it be entitled to the 1796 MS65 coin? Or would I just win two of them, one for the nomination, and one for actually creating the thread? image

Upon further thought, it would have to be the thread (that hit a huge number of replies) about me placing a legitimate bid on an Ebay auction that wondercoin was also bidding on. Something about pushing up his non-reserve meeting bid (although I was outbid within 5 minutes by someone else). Not sure if it was the most insane, but certainly the one of the most inappropriate threads for this forum.

Sorry dbldie55 - you already voted image That thread was "so inappropriate" that the next time the coin came up and there was no "meaningless bidding" the coin fetched a high bid of roughly 20% of the first time!!! But, in the spirit of keeping the "calm" all I can say to you dbldie55 is good luck tomorrow on your first day back on the job! image Wondercoin.

I'm a little too stupid to figure out how to add a link, but I would say that any of the inane posts filled with meaningless babble that I've started ought to qualify.

I've got to agree. I'd go with the HD "Leasing Insert Registry" Thread as the most whacked out, insane Thread to date. It caused a flurry of postings from some who haven't been back since (some good, some, not so good). It was amusing as well as disturbing. Vile and vicious as well as stupid fun. It also allowed me to solidify a couple of friendships via PM's. And, admit it: it was a thread you loved to hate.
    Do we have a winner?
Mitch- I believe you started that Thread. One "Classic" 1796 'coin (cough, Gallery Mint, cough) is on it's way to you and one on it's way to HD. (-If I can't locate HD's mailing address possibly I could simply send his winning coin to you Mitch and you'de forward it on?).
