Looking for your advice/opinion- Looking to buy a $400-600 Hank Aaron/Willie Mays/Pete Rose.

I am looking to buy a Hank Aaron/ Willie Mays/ Pete Rose in the $400-600 range. I would even consider buying one of each as long as I do not go over the 600.00. My birthday is June 1st and each year I try to buy a decent card for my collection(around the 200.00 or less range). However, I got a little bonus at work for a referral and want to buy a Hank Aaron/Pete Rose or Willie Mays with the extra money and birthday money combined.

I have always wanted a 1954 Topps Hank Aaron rookie card. I have thought it is best to at least buy a slabbed rookie by SGC, BGS or PSA because I am not an expert on identifying fake rookies and it seems to be alot of raw Aaron rookies on ebay.

Another idea is my twin seven year old sons and I love the Reds and maybe a Pete Rose rookie(or other card) would be best for our personal collection? We watch the Reds just about evey day on DirecTV and really have enjoyed them the last two years.

I also have wanted a Willie Mays for my collection. I have not done as much looking for Mays because I just like Hank Aaron better but would buy a Mays over an Aaron if I thought there was good value in the card.

Really curious what your opinion on what Aaron/Rose or Mays I should buy with that amount of money?

It could be a autographed card as well but I would want a certified(topps, Donruss etc) or PSA slabbed autograph if that was the route I went. We have an autographed ball of Aaron and Rose already in our collection.

We have about two weeks left to find the card(s)and read on several messsage boards and the best knowledge for vintage cards comes from this board in my opinion.

Thanks for any responses and advice.

    IMO

Go for the much scarcer 1954 Johnstons Cookies Hank Aaron card, its 20+X scarcer than the extremely common "everyday I see dozens for sale" Topps card, and in years to come will go up in value.

Rarer regional issues will dominate in the future, .... Supply and Demand!

I'm not disagreeing that some regional issues might do better than the "extremely common" issues, but also remember to factor in the Demand side. Regionals are certainly rarer, but outside of an advanced collector, is there really a person out there who isn't that into cards who has ever muttered, yes, I want that 1954 Johnstons Cookies Hank Aaron card? Of course not, everyone wants a 54 Topps Aaron. That "extremely common" 1954 Topps Aaron card will always have a following, easy to sale if you get in a pinch, and a proven track record.

As far as the OP question, it looks like for around or maybe just a tad over $600, you could pick up a PSA 3 1954 Topps Aaron, and a PSA/DNA Willie Mays auto ball and PSA/DNA Pete Rose auto ball.
