Well I ran for Mayor & that didn't work out, but I did get some good poppage.

Election is over, glad I did it, and am ok it didn't work out. Now I know why good people don't run for public office.........but I still think good people should, if that makes sense.

In the meantime, I did get some good poppage this week. Many of the cards in the middle belong to Mickey71, who got some good results too. Hope all is well with everyone and am glad to be back. I've missed collecting the last 3 months.

  • I am sorry it did not work out, but I am glad you ran. Politics have become a very nasty business, and I wish for once a good guy would have one. I do not think many good guys are willing to put their families through the lies and horrible behavior from opponents.

    Thanks everybody.

    I have seen the very best of people in this experience, and the absolute worst as well. I doubt I'll do it again because of the latter....it's just not worth it. The toll it takes is very hard; I've been in campaigns a long time so I'm used to it, but my wife wasn't. Really was hard on her.

    But I think our city deserved a choice. We have a little political machine here & I decided to challenge it. In 8 weeks or so, we convinced about 4 of every 10 voters that our popular Mayor in our growing city needed to be fired. Nobody had a clue who I was 8 weeks ago.

    The great thing about today is there was a local card show. I was more than happy to go, and I'm happy to slip back into the general collecting populace. image

    If 1202 folks had changed their minds at the last minute, the results
    would have been different.

    Running for public office changes the inner workings of the participants.
    The fire in the belly is seldom extinguished; only abandoned, denied, or
    suppressed. If the fire is still burning, don't let today's pain scare you off.
    That pain, tho far greater than a sports loss, will abate and when the bell
    sounds again it needs to be answered.

    Find those 1202 people and win them over for the next round.

    Ya needed to do something like the current "leader" did and still keeps doing...promise everyone the moon and the stars...like ya shoulda promised all card collectors a 1952 Mantle and they would have all voted for ya. LOL
  • I'm also curious as to your opinion on the arts hall vote. I understand both sides of the issue ---- but since you got involved in city politics, I'd be curious as to your opinion

    I would discourage leaving politics. Here in New York the incumbant nearly always wins despite having the 'most dissfunctional' state gov't in the union.
    They can run on the taxpayers dollar. All their political cronies and favors owed help them get elected.

    The quote by TR........one of our greatest presidents IMO is right on.
    Remember Lincoln lost early in his carear.
