1866 Baseball Cards

These belonged to my grandfather. The Wapellos, of Rock Island Illinois, were named after a local Indian Chief. Quite the hitting team, they once beat a rival team 118 to 7 on August 25, 1866. No gloves in those days, so catching a fly ball could be painful. I have had these since the early 60's after my grandfather passed away. They were sealed in Seal-A-Meal plastic bags in the mid 70's they have remained so ever since. I photographed them through the plastic so you may see some artifacts from that. My plan is to donate these to the Rock Island Historical Society. I'd be very interested to hear what you think. What value would you place on them?

<< <i>I know the only graded one I've seen sold for $8600 not including buyer premium, and that was one card. >>
You mean you've seen one of these cards graded and sold? Please clarify.

<< <i>Sell, sell, sell!!!!
No! No! No! LOL
My only motive in asking for an opinion of value is to report what is said to the Historical Society. I think these would make an interesting addition to their museum.
<< <i>It looks like the same guy and is titled "The Old Man"

Similar but not the same guy. My guy is named Jim Hodges. Different uniform too. Thanks for the link...I may contact them for an opinion.
<< <i>You say "These" as in plural... How many do you have? At approx 8k each that adds up pretty quick... I hope you claim a decent amount on your taxes.... >>
Check the link to the rest of the cards in my post above. 13 total cards. The news paper article is interesting too. There isn't anybody left that would have the information reported in the article.
Good luck with them. and Thanks you for showing us them.
