Bobby are close to Raleigh? I live about 40 minutes from the fairgrounds.

Have you been to these inside pitch shows before?

I live in Raleigh. I only went one time, but I had a good time the one time I went.

I spent over $1,000 last time I went. Noone takes credit card, so you have to have the cash handy (maybe get some money out today and some tomorrow). I got a GREAT deal on a couple of 1961 Fleer Basketballs. There was another guy selling his father-in-laws collection. Got some stuff from him as well. Your typical fare I guess. Alot of dealers were overpriced.

Might go. Might save my money for Greensboro, since that one is in my backyard. Although, I am going to Raleigh on Sunday anyway.

Just got back. A lot of over priced stuff. Some good stuff too. Wish I was still there but my 2 kids were horrible. I had to leave early because they were being so bad. I am going again tomorrow because I missed a lot and saw some stuff I was interested in but couldn't look because they were being so bad.

Bobby if you want to meet up let me know.
  • Just got back myself...crowd was a little thin compared to the tow or three other Inside Pitch shows I had been to, but it seemed to be picking up when I left. As usual...tons of new, numbered, game-used, auto stuff but there were several very high end vintage guys. Set builders had plenty of raw high grade stuff to pick through and there was a pretty good variety. I saw a women bring in an old baseball to the James Spence Booth...after several hours, they deemed it authentic but some of the signatures were traced over some time ago Babe Ruth being one of them YIKES!! Still trying to figure out how you authenticate signatures that have been traced over?!?!

I was really impressed with one dealer there, his name is Greg Dragos and he had an amazing array of vintage, mostly raw, VERY high grade stuff with amazingly affordable prices. All-in-all, I was pleased...dropped about a grand and had a really good time.
    I NEED HANKS!!!

I am there...in the Ted Williams shirt.....did you see the fake Jordan rookie in the SGC 9 case yet??

Just got back - I totally went right by you Bobby. I saw you with the Williams shirt but I didn't know it was you. I think I was in front of the table that had the Jordan card when you were looking at it? I met up with a fellow CU member which was cool! I was glad to be childless this time. I got to really dig through some stuff and found some goodies! I picked up a Gem looking 1993 Select Jeter RC. I also picked up some cards that are gradable for my Jeter Basic set. 1998 Score #22, 1999 Fleer #5, 2000 Ultra #200, 2003 Stadium Club #6. I also picked up a nice 2005 Topps #118 Rivera. Also couldn't resist 2 other cards too. 2006 Topps Turkey Red Red #450 Jeter and 2011 Topps Gypsy Queen #90 Jeter base card.

I had to rifle through a LOT of junk cards just to find those. Looked at 3 1993 SP Jeter rookies. 1 guy had 2. 1 was EX $70 the other was awesome other then the finger prints all over the card. The corners were sharp definitely a PSA 9 if the card didn't have finger prints on it. The guy wanted $90 and I wanted to buy it. The only thing held me back was the finger prints. If I knew I could clean them off w/o scratching the card I would have walked out with it. It was the sharpest corners I have seen on a raw version in a long time. Shame someone fingered it all up.

There was a some vintage but most of it was over priced. There was one guy someone previously mentioned Greg Dragos. He had a great selection of raw high end vintage. As stated his prices were very reasonable. I am not really a vintage guy so I didn't buy anything in fear of recoloring or trimming. He had a really nice 52 Robinson rookie L/R centering was awesome but T/B was OC. Card had sharp corners and edges too!.

Another dealer had a nicely centered 1941 PB DiMaggio that would have graded a PSA 2 at best because the card had no corners at all and wicked edge dings. Was wickedly over priced @ 3.5K so I passed.

All in all it was a great time. IMO it was just as good or the same as the Philly show I had been to a last year. Only bummer was PSA and BBCE wasn't there. Maybe next time they will be there (fingers crossed). I am seriously thinking about having a table at the next show. Just to get rid of all the stuff I don't want.

Sorry I missed you Bobby. Maybe next time.

It's ok....I bought a 1953 Satchel Paige SGC 6 from that guy.....I couldn't get over that Jordan rookie however....I had never seen a fake card in an SGC case before......I can't believe someone that seasoned would make that kind of rookie mistake. What a horrible fake!!!

    << <i>Greg Dragos >>

That was his name!!! He had some nice raw vintage, commons and stars....he is who I bought the Paige from. He had a jewelers loupe on his head. He also had that fake Jordan rookie.......

Was the card being sold as the real deal or just displayed as an SGC mistake?

It was being sold as the real deal. The case looked compromised, the flip was totally unlike any SGC flip I had ever seen (the spacing the and lettering looked totally wrong), and the card looked liked it was photocopied. Other dealers said he bought it from an individual who came in late right before they shut down Sat night, and sold it to him for $700.

Bobby - That must have been you at the table looking at the Jordan. I was right there talking with another CU member.

Here is a few I picked up at the show.

The 1993 select has a shot at a psa 10!

White specs are my dirty scan not on the cards...

Cool deal!! I hated having to constantly go to the car to check out VCP. I will have to figure out how to work on that.....

All in all, it was a good time had by all!

I am going to the Greensboro show on June 4th. Hope to see some of you there.

Greensboro is a little out of my realm.....but next time it is in Raleigh, I will try to go to that one!
  • twileytwiley Posts: 1,923
The Greensboro show has more tables, 300 according to the website. The Raleigh show only has 175. I never been to the Greensboro show so I am looking forward to it. Next Raleigh shows are June 25-26. I will be there.
