Generally speaking, would you rather have a signed base card or a signed insert card from a pack?

I thought I would start a discussion about signed base cards vs signed insert cards from packs. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind pulling a nice autographed card from a pack. However, for my collecting taste, I love the regular ole' Topps base cards signed, whether they be vintage or modern. I would much rather have a vintage Topps card signed than even the nice looking Heritage Real One Autos. Yet, those Heritage autographs usually go pretty high. Even on modern cards, I would much rather have my 2001 Topps Traded Albert Pujols signed than a pack pulled insert.

For example, take a cut signature card of Mickey Mantle vs a vintage card signed by Mantle. I'll take the latter any day, I don't care if it is a 1/1. Well, I guess I would take the 1/1, sell it to a sucker, then buy a signed vintage card and have money left over.

Which would you rather have for your collection?

I don't like cut signatures. I especially dislike them on living players

I would rather have an auto I obtained in person than one I pulled from a pack, but I won't turn down one from in a pack. I also won't pay high prices for mfr-issued autos.

    Hi Shane

An insert is a gift - some are better than others - I especially like the Heritage signed cards.

Total turnoff - the "stickum" sigs.

Next best turnoff - a sloppy "cut."

Favorite: a clean sig on a base card whether TTM or in person - an insert that resembles a base card is OK too.

Other than for the monetary value, I would much rather have a signed base card. No question at all for me.
