REA - Ends today

I am typically not an online auction guy, but so many people have preached to me how great REA was, so I checked it out this year (sad I know, it was my first time even going to their site) and low and behold...

Anyway, I wondered if you guys typically come back here and share your newly purchased treasures after the auction is over? I'd love to see who won what from the CU boards..I've got a few items I'm bidding on, but I'm 1 of very many on each item, so we'll see.
Successful transactions with: thedutymon, tsalems1, davidpuddy, probstein123, lodibrewfan, gododgersfan, dialj, jwgators, copperjj, larryp, hookem, boopotts, crimsontider, rogermnj, swartz1, Counselor

Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.

Good luck with your bids. Hope you pickup a nice "treasure". I'm sitting out the REA auction in hopes that I'll win an item later this week at a different auction that I want instead. The REA auction catalog is always nice to peruse. They get some outstanding consignments.

If I was going to sell vintage cards and sets, I believe I would use REA. They seem to get premium prices. Do you think nice 1950s and 1960s baseball card sets would do better with REA or with probstein/prewarcardcollector?

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.

This sucks that you have to wait till EVERY auction has no bids for 15 minutes. They should close EACH auction if it has no bids after 15 minutes. I won't know if I won anything until late tonight or tomorrow

Yes, I'm sure that recommendation will go over real well with the consignors, LOL..

lol...I don't think it would affect the outcome of anything. Your auctions are safe consignors...and good luck!

It depends on how rare the item is. Also bidders tend to account for the buyers premium when they place their bids. While the card might eventually sell for around VCP average or a little more, it gets there because of the help of the 20% juice. While REA does an OUSTANDING job, I honestly believe for your "ordinary" (if that fits here) Sandy Koufax PSA 9, you would do better selling it on Ebay.

    And......................REA is a wrap. Finally.

They should really end their policy saying that "the auction will end when no bid has been made for 15 minutes." Obviously, it will never get to that point on the final day. At 2am, there were still multiple bids being made every minute.

Not yet sure...will probably open at least one and save a couple (the one with Namath and the one with Harris R on back)..

There are definately some people with big bucks still to spend on high end collectables that is for sure!

I made at bid at something like 3:45 in the morning, it was one of the last ten bids in the auction before the auction closed. And there was certainly a lot of action up until the close -- there was no specific 15 minute rule.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I bid on the 48 leaf Spahn, but I wasn't going to break the bank on it. Not very well centered and was a low end 8 IMO. I just decided not to splurge since I wasn't 100% in love with it. As I've gotten older, I've become more picky about centering. 10 years ago, I would have bid that one up much higher given all the other great characteristics it displayed.

  • Ya as long as one person continues to bid in that 15 min time frame, the auction continues. So why do all these Auction sites post end at such a date and time.
If they don't get enough bidders close to ending date, they extend the auction for another week stating everyone didn't get their catalogues on time.
Plus you gotta tack on 15 to 20% auction fees on top of ur winning bid. But I guess you have some valuable high end stuff, these auctions are the way to go.

Picked up a Mantle Bazooka lot. If I can get the 61' panel trimmed down some and it grades as nice as the description indicates I should do well on the lot.

Doubt we'll find out. Check out the net54 boards, there's a whole thread to guys announcing their winnings. Biggest card claimed so far has been the T206 Plank w/Piedmont back.

I didn't bid on anything this go around but did get the catalog. Was completely BLOWN AWAY by how nice it is. 750+ pages of baseball history, all in full-color. Probably 2" thick. I'll be reading through it for a long, long time to come.

Great pickup on that lot. I own the PSA 9 of that 61 panel as I bought it last year through REA. I was the underbidder on the PSA 10 through Memory Lane on Thursday night.

$30,000 for 3 cards....I'll say! What kind of comission rate did he get with them?
  • frankhardyfrankhardy Posts: 8,143 ✭✭✭✭✭
Not sure about the commission rate. He was really disappointed early in the evening because they were only at something like $2,500 and he was hoping for $5,000. He really wasn't sure how much they would bring because of the rarity of them. I think he had to change underwear later.

I don't think REA charges a seller commission. They charge a buyer's fee - I wanna say it's 20% - so they don't have to charge a seller commission. Not 100% certain on that but I know for sure they've - at the very least - waived the fee for some sellers in the past.

I know that not to be true. I consigned with them last year and was charged a 10% sellers commision.
  • mcadamsmcadams Posts: 2,618 ✭✭✭
    They charge on both sides.

Buyers commission is 17.5%. Sellers commission ranges from 0% - 10%, depending on the item.

Exactly. I consigned some stuff to them and they waived the seller's commission. It just depends on how badly they want the item(s).
