1965 Namath Variation question

Does the Butterfly variation increase the value of a Namath Rookie?

Would you pay 250 more for the butterfly version or buy the 6.5?

The butterfly is a print error, not a variation. Why would anybody pay extra for a mis-printed card?

I remember a few years ago when BMW had a high-grade Namath with the print error and were trumping it up. Personally, I do not place any value in this. It is a print error, nothing more -- and I prefer the one w/o the error.

There are many other common print errors that actually detract from grading -- like the 1969 Topps Super Willie Mays "cloud", the two yellow print dots on nearly every 1974 Topps #283 Mike Schmidt, the print line on the pant leg of 1985 Topps Cal Ripken Jr., etc.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • Buy the 6.5

Don't like the butterfly at all.
Someone else said it best " Just a print error"

  • To me, it is a print defect and I wouldn't be willing to pay the same price as one without the error. Calling a butterfly may make it sound cute, but it looks like crap.
