Kennedy prices atrificially inflated?

Has anyone noticed the prices of PCGS graded Kennedys lately? For example: 1965 SMS 67Cam for $560 & $600 to the same person, 1972-D MS 67-$406, 1978-D MS 66-$105, 1990-P MS 66-$456 and yet a 1964 MS 67 sold for $456! Is someone trying to make a market by inflating prices? I know that in the last year they have not become that rare to warrent anywhere near those prices. I'm glad I've completed my set and have some spares! Am I the only one noticing? Are there any other "Registry" sets with price jumps that drastic? Just my 2 cents

High grade Ikes have increased like that, so have PR70 and MS70 coins. I think the registry effect has driven many finest know to very high numbers if the population is low relative to the demand.

  • would agree the registery set is contributing to some of the increase in prices...Im a proof collector and have watching the steady increase in the proof silvers...especially the 95 and 97......the 97 is going for 3 times the price it was last year.....but it is only what the market will bear....right now it is bearing a lot.....

  • After just watching a 1990 P MS 66 Kennedy go for 343.00 on E-bay will I just wondering this same thing myself. Looks like I have picked the wrong time to start collecting these in MS 66 but I will go on and if it gets to bad I do have my type set to work on.

It's not just the usual coins like the 70-D, or the 82 and 83 P,D. Higrade 1998's are $300+. Some of the market makers have decided this is the place to be. Some of these coins are $300+ with a total population graded of 250 coins out of millions minted. It'll be fun to watch. I think the savvy collectors are trying to identify the poor quality mintages now, and buy higher grade examples.

I have a white 88P in PCGS MS67 that I have been thinking about selling. Anyone know what a fair price would be in today's market?

I don't mind when someone bids because they need the coin. I've bid on some Kennedys and paid a high price at the time to get the coin, but, I NEEDED the coin. Some of those buying/bidding on the Kennedys today are those with complete MS 67 sets and they're bidding on MS 66 examples. Why? I have many spares but usually because I upgraded or bought lots of 2 or 3 of an MS 66. When I decide to get competitive again, I'll probably be one of those paying the going rate also but I met my goal: completing an MS and a proof Kennedy set graded by PCGS. Now I have to complete my first set-unslabbed Kennedy set in a folder. I'm about 75% complete on that one because I was drawn away by the PCGS sets.

There is a 91-P Kennedy up for bidding on Wednesdays' Teletrade auction.(PCGS MS-67) imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage
  • let play guess the the winnig bids of these 3 kennedys in wed tt auction (before juice)
    91-P $550
    94-P $200
    96-D $60

The 96 was a nice looking example. I need the 91-p but won't be able to afford it.
it went for about 200 last year. pop 8 or 9. I'll make another bet they the pop on the 67
doesn't go up again this year.
