bin Laden and the metals??

Will the drop in the metals be linked, in part, to the death of bin Laden and the impact that might have on Middle East terrorists, and upheaval in the oil producing countries?

And now I read that bin Laden's body was buried at sea. Bad move. Opponents of the USA will demand to see the body and photos and DNA samples will not be "believed."

You can exhume a grave, but how do you retrieve a body buried at sea for proof?

  • Perhaps Donald Trump or Monty Python or some other such substansive individual could demand to see the death certificate!

The body was buried at sea to avoid a martyr pilgrimage to his grave and grave robbing. As far as evidence of OBL's death, that info will be recorded on the long form birth certificate. image

The drop in silver had occured prior to any public reports. Make of that what you will. Silver is already starting to recover.

As far as the linkage of silver pricing to any middle eastern upheaval, I think that there is no linkage to silver but that there will be a peripheral effect, based on what actually happens to oil production. The muslim world has shown an irrational tendancy to riot over small things. I'm waiting to see the reaction over this.

Thus far in the US, it's all being played out as a propaganda ploy - and it should be. OTOH, it won't bring back jobs or erase the debt overhang.

Just "another" trading day with the London LBMA closed. Things get back to normal tomorrow after this 4 day "weekend" for the Royals and their fans.
What was interesting was that in the Indian markets on Saturday gold closed at $1610+. Considering that many claimed Bin-Laden was dead years ago,
this latest news swinging markets is most odd.

I find it difficult to believe that the huge sells (and drop in price) of silver were not based on the metals traders knowing something big was up. Yes, I firmly believe that between the extensive intelligence networks the big traders maintain, and connections between governments and the big traders, they have knowledge of events before we do. Also keep in mind the big banksters needed silver to drop to help cover some of their shorts.

All in all I don't see it having any lasting impact on prices though, the fundamentals of the world economy have not changed a bit just because Obama killed Osama.

"Will the drop in the metals be linked, in part, to the death of bin Laden ..."

You should have stopped there, the answer to that part is yes, and to be exact it was actually an increase in the value of the dollar vice a drop in metals.

"And now I read that bin Laden's body was buried at sea. Bad move."

No, it was a good move that was planned in advance. They have plenty of pictures and DNA evidence to prove it was him; besides, Al Qaeda won't dispute it.

Still would've liked to have seen Osama's Head on a Silver Platter sitting on Obama's desk... but that would be too gross....

Wonder when the Marshall Islands Mint will release the OBL commemorative round.....

Wonder if JP Morgan made any moves in the Asian Market last night ?
    Or are they able to.

Wonder if JP Morgan made any moves in the Asian Market last night ?

    Rhetorical question?

I'm sure they have some trading desks around the world. And even if they didn't do the trades themselves, one can be sure that the word was
put out to Friends of JPMorgue to go short this weekend. A 12% drop in 15 min in overseas trading? And this was on the heels of strong trading in India
on Saturday where gold reached above $1610. Rather incredible drop considering the circumstances.

    /////////////////////////////////////////////////

I have not seen the volume #s, but I would expect that JPM
at least had a few surrogates trading on the info last night.

The ONLY thing that makes me think that JPM did not fully
participate is that the "news" went wide at a time that least
    well-served JPM.

If the "news" had broken at 10 AM on Monday, JPM and other
banksters could have covered HUGE bets on the ultra-cheap.
The selloff in metals would have been GREATLY magnified. (A
release on Tuesday would have, obviously, been even better,
but keeping the lid on the "news" until then would likely have
    been impossible.)

    .................

The parallels between the OBL operation and JEC's Operation
    Blue Light/Evening Light/Rice Bowl/Eagle Claw are interesting.

The lessons may be as simple as looking at what 30-years of
experience has done to US military capabilities, or they may
speak to the dangers of micro-management by civilian
    authorities.

The failed Blue Light led to a regime change in the USA. The
OBL affair could have the opposite impact and help assure a
    long-sustained bull run for PMs.

In 1980, MANY folks wished that they could have had a much
longer relationship with inflation. Last night's affair could easily
deliver the underpinnings of an extended friendship between
    today's PM-players and inflation.

OTOH, GHWB's regime was seen as invincible after its military
success, yet was removed a short time later.

Circumstances change a bit more rapidly these days, but the
out-month effects of the OBL hit likely bode well for the future
extension of the most PM-favorable US regime in 30-years.

In the every-man-for-himself world of PMs, inflation is our
only genuine ally. Our friend got a strong boost, today.

Absolutely, one really has nothing to do with the other, other than the pshycological effect. The real determining factors of what Metals are doing has not changed just because OBL is supposedly dead. To think otherwise is either ignorant and/or foolish.
Like I heard Barbara Walters ask, "does this mean terrorism is over now?" That's the same kind of thinking as it relates to what Metals are doing and OBL being dropped in the Sea.
