Which would you buy: 1874 $3 Gold in XF45 or 1937-D 3-Legger Buff in VF35?

Which one of those would you buy? Nevermind the prices. Just, if you were going to buy one, which would you buy and why? This is tonight's late night discussion thread. image

I'd buy the gold and wait for a higher grade 3 Legger to come along.

The $3 gold....because I used to own Longacre's original wax models for the $3 gold piece.

We found buffalo nickels in change when we were kids. I'd buy the gold.
  • I have the three-leg in 35 and the '74 $3 in 53, both PCGS plastic.
I'd vote for the gold because it's, well, gold. Love the buffalos but love
    the old gold denominations more.

The gold. An historic coin versus a quirky mint error.

Both are neat and desirable coins but I'd go for the $3 gold.

While I do like Buff nickels I just can't collect anything that is mostly made of copper. Just too many years of too many people messing with and altering them for my tastes. The gold it is for me

They were published in The Numismatist in the Summer of 1985. I later sold the models to Rick Snow, because the reverse model was also used for the Flying Eagle cent, and he has them pictured in his book on them.

I'd buy both. If I can make a few bucks spending a few bucks, I will.

The $3g. I had a 3-legger VF for a while. It did nothing for me. I sold it.

This thread would have been better served by a poll.

I'd go with the gold no questions asked.

Give me the gold. I never cared much for the 3-legger, or Buffaloes in general.

Id get the three leg buff because it is much better known coin. It has been on the cover of Coins mag like a bazzilon times and all newbees want one.

Due to recent bad exp. with selling small gold coins, i will no longer buy, sell, or even look at gold.

I like the $3 - it's gold, and more scarce than the other one.

The $3 gold in a heartbeat!

Looks like I'm in the minority on this one but I'd take the 3-Leg Buff. It's a classic American coin and was THE one coin I had dreamed of owning as a kid. The other choice doesn't do much for me.

I'd buy the 1801 half dime in Good
