Finally finished my GB Penny Type Set - PICS Added

Just got the grades posted on a few I had submitted a while back, the last coin I needed was the 1860 Beaded Border Penny which I picked up raw in an auction a couple of months ago.

The 1860 BB came back 64RB image which I am very happy with as it is a pretty tough variety, the only other one graded at NGC is a 64 RD. Of the others sent in I had a 1918, 1921 and 1935 Pennies that graded 65RB which I am good with and 2 Swiss bronze shooting medals (1895 and 1896) that both made 65 BN. The real disappointment in the submission was an 1894 Guatemala 1/2 Real counterstamp on a Peru Sol which was AU Details- Surface Hairlines, I sure didn't see that coming.

Sorry but I could not add pics while at the office.

Wow, good job Jeff (now let's see if like the old potato chip ad you can settle for just one of each!). Can you post pictures - the feeble amongst us really like these since we can not perform as well in that department...

  • Really impressive Jeff.

I've worked on it off an on for about 10 years. Really the only tough coin is the 1860 Beaded Border. There are a couple I could still upgrade but I am really at a stopping point with it. I had started with the idea of finishing the whole set in 65 or better, but so far I have not been able to get a 1902 Low Sea or the 1860 BB to grade above 64. I've tried about 4 of the 1902 Low Sea variety (which is the scarcer one), and all came back 63 and 64, I have not found any of the 65's for sale. My previous 1860 BB was a VF or so coin, long since sold, and this one was the first I have handled that was a true Unc.

Apparantly I'm not smart enough to link to the NGC registry, if neither of the links work you may have to go to my web page to see the complete set.
