How did Kanye West get an invite????
***Other guests known for their fashion sense include Elton John, who was a close friend of Princess Diana, and Kanye West, the rapper with a very healthy self-image. Here's hoping he doesn't repeat his Taylor Swift move during the "I do's."***

This is a U.S. coin forum and not an Eurotrash tabloid outlet so I say NO.

The U.K. isn't the only country in the world with a royal family and I don't believe this is the only royal wedding this year. Why anybody, especially Americans, would be fascinated with this particular event is outside of my comprehension.

That's your opinion... now lets hear from the other 311,253,863 Americans. image

Better hurry... we're growing 1 person every 14 seconds in the United States... if it weren't for international migrants (most must be from the UK!) image, we would be growing substantially slower.

And China is growing 4 every 14 seconds .... and India - 6 every 14 seconds.

Cool video if you haven't seen it yet: Did you know - technology.
  • Last I checked my tattoo's say USA or USMC or something like that. I may have few misspelled words or say an eagle, globe and anchor backwards, but I am still and American. Sounds like Llafoe has dibs on ya so i will leave it at that.

Is it really a mystery? The US is closer to any other country with a royal family, a partner with them on several wars, recipient of the English language from them, and originally settled by them. Washington was even a loyalist until his Ohio Valley land grants were revoked.

Here's an article from Yahoo! that discusses this subject.

The last parts of the article summarily represents my opinion.

If I was in the U.K. right now I would expect and welcome all this coverage. The problem is I am not in the U.K. right now. I'm in Chicago at this moment. If I wanted to be saturated in all that wedding media circus and hoopla I would've specifically made the trip over to London this week.

In all I wish the couple happy nuptials although if I was a taxpayer and my tax dollars were funding this event and their accompanying lifestyles I'd be pissed especially considering that country's current financial state.

As for the notion that the Brits are America's best friends in the world, it was probably true in 1947 but go to London today and randomly talk to a few dozen "native" Brits about their opinions of America. You'll learn real quickly that notion is a fantasy.

Of course I don't think it is a big deal when ANYONE gets married. I don't need to try to live my life imaging I am anyone else (athlete, movie star, tabloid figures, etc).

I come here because I am interested in coins, not fairy tale weddings from another country.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Search for [william kate] on the bay and see how many different coins they have. It's more than a few!

Having been stationed in England in 1952, when King George died, making Elizabeth ll Queen, I could care less. The royal family is powerless and nothing more then figure heads. Queen Victoria was the last monarch with real power but one of her sons loaded the House of Lords with his proxies who voted their power away giving it to the House of Commons.

The royal wedding is a British event and should be celebrated on a British coin but not on a U.S. coin. I disagreed with the Louis Braille commem that the U.S. issued since he was a frenchman and should be honored by the french on one of their coin. Let's limit our coins to themes and people of our country.

I don't know anyone who cares about some other country's royal whatever. I know more people who care about the ATB issued yesterday.

Wait... I do know an Indian dude from Canada. I'll ask him if he cares - he has double the chance!
  • With all the hatred that I just read here, THIS is a real reason to have an OPEN FORUM.

This thread is definitely OFF TOPIC
and should be moved to ?????

I agree this is a very off-topic thread, but I will express what is apparently an unpopular opinion. I believe William and Kate can give the whole world a lift at a time when one is much needed. The wedding was worth every penny and will pay great dividends to the UK. I think (but am not certain) the wedding was a gift from the Queen.

In the United States our Head of State and Head of Government are the same person - the President. It is difficult for us to understand the power and value of a Head of State who is a symbol of the nation, and is above politics.

    <<< numismatic tribute >>>

Yea, the monarchy over there doesn't get worshipped enough...they really need some more attention with a numismatic tribute. LOL

Well, they could have a series of coins with their Prime Ministers and Prime Ministers spouses. They could be just like our series of Presidents and First Spouses. And, hopefully, just as well designed.

  • Congrats Will and Kate, my wife loved the wedding, and i was glancing up occasionally while listing coins on the bay.
Still thinking of what to put in my signature...
